I am a new student at TESC. Before enrolling for classes, I'm trying to figure out a few things. What is considered full time for federal aid and which types of classes qualify? I like the sound of the online and E-pack classes, but I don't thin kthe latter apply. I'm not quite sure what the difference between the guided studies and the on-line classes other than an extra two weeks is either. The proctor thing for the tests for guided study looked scary too, one more cost.

I'm in the Oregon National Guard and am still trying to figure out how to get my aid. I know I have to send in the Tuition Assistance forms ASAP as soon as I know what classes I am going to take, but I don't know how to get my GI Bill stuff rolling. The educational officer was confusing and hard to get ahold of. Also, are nondeployed Guard members eligible to take the DANTES tests?

    VA information

    Having attended TESC,
I am familiar with your question.

First, Full time is considered 12 units in an undergraduate and 6 units in a graduate setting. These credits can be guided study courses, ecourses, or traditional courses. TESC doesn't consider PLA/PA, clep/Dantes/ECE/tecep to be eligible exams with regards to VA benefits.

When you register at a school, they will have a VA representative at TESC. Go online and look up 'contact us', and just click through til you find the section for military/VA or grab their phone number.

Contact them, and they will explain what you need to fill out to get your VA benefits to kick in. Write down their name and extension. Ask them what is applicable to your VA benefits.
Hint: Stay on them at TESC!!! They messed mine up (forgot to submit) every single time. This caused a delay each time.

As for proctor exams, in my case, I had to pay a local college $50 per exam to proctor the exam. Some areas, the local library will do them for free. Check your library.

As for guided study vs epack courses. You will need to see what your major is, because some courses were only offered as guided study while others were ecourses. Ask the counselor at TESC and they'll give you a more detailed explanation.

Your local national guard base will also have a career counselor to answer questions as well.

Good Luck, and congrats on pursuing your degree.
