    HELP!!!
OK this week I need to make my final decision of the "big 3" and already ruled out Charter Oak because of the concentration essay requirement.

Excelsior gives their guidelines for Liberal Studies requirements in black and white and told me flat out that as long as I fulfill the depth requirements and other guidelines (I CAN CHOOSE ANY COURSES OR EXAMS I WANT TO COMPLETE MY MAJOR)as opposed to COSC that requires an essay and FACULTY APPROVAL of your course plan.

Here's the big ? before I shell out my $1800 or $1900 bucks
DOES Thomas Edison require either an essay OR FACULTY APPROVAL of course/exam choices for area concentrations(Social Science, Humanities...) or for liberal studies even?

    How leinient are these schools?
I scoured their websites as much as I can already and I KNOW I'VE BEEN A PAIN IN THE BUTT this week with 20?'s lol but this is the most important one for me.:(

    reply.

The significant difference that I have heard is that Excelsior is more flexible about taking in as many credits as possible. Thomas Edison has a rule that they require many upper level classes and not that Excelsior does not, but Excelsior seems to be more flexible about combining community college credits as well as other credits from universities and colleges. So, if I were going to decide, I would probably go with Excelsior because of the flexibility. However, you should make sure that you have looked into all the programs and asked questions, to see which one will work the best for you. But, in my honest opinion, Excelsior seems to be the most flexible.

Thanks- Although my biggest concern right now is the question I have in the bold print..... I do think I know what your talking about- Excelsior will accept up to 90 from a 2 yr school while TESC only accepts 80.

In my evaluations from Exc and COSC they both accepted the same credits- I figured TESC would have similar standards but maybe theyre more picky.

As for upper level - EXC requies 30 300-400 level
TESC requires 27 200 300 OR 400 level and no forther detail is given. OH well as long as there's no essay required... If so, then I go with Excelsior and the other 2 can take my $$$ and ***!!!

I've worked on two bachelor's degrees at TESC, and they definitely don't require annoying essays and detailed approvals of degree plans. COSC seems to be the only one of the Big Three that does that.

When it comes to credits, I get the impression that Excelsior and TESC are the least picky, and COSC is the pickiest. I've also personally found that the online documents on TESC's web site are pretty complete when it comes to describing the rules and restrictions for each concentration. As long as I follow those, there aren't any surprises, which is a good thing, since their academic advisement staff is not competent.

LOL, TESC vs. my cell phone service...

Yes your right - very incompetant- actually hit or miss- one sounds like he's a kid out of high school or something, the other barely spoke English, and the third one I talked to was OK.

It reminds me of the customer service I get for my CELL PHONE at a mall kiosk with a bunch of cocky college kids waiting on you...lol

What is your problem with the essay? It really is not very dificult to do. My first essay was rejected and the second one was approved.

If you do not have all your credits yet and know what classes you plan to take, you can still write your essay and get it approved based on the classes you will take rather than the ones you have taken.

I found COSC the easiest to deal with. COSC provides copies of essays that were rejected and ones that were approved...hell, I can post my rejected and approved essays if it helps!

Bottom line, if the essay is the only problem you find with COSC, don't rule it out yet.

I didn't check out TESC because of the cost, but I had evaluations done at both Excelsior and COSC. COSC gave me much more credit (by quite a bit) than Excelsior was willing to grant.

I agree with the previous post about the essay. Don't let it be the thing that stops you. I'd be willing to let you read mine as well.
