    Hi,
One of the personnel where I work has a couple of 'Diploma' qualifications prominently displayed that look suspicious.

Really tacky design, poor printing. The diplomas are from _APACT University_, and incorporate a testamur, and a signature from the 'Dean'. But there is no signature from the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, or President of the University on either diploma, and no other info.

I did a search for APACT in the Degree Info threads, as well as a quick search on Google, but couldn't find anything that seemed likely. I suppose I could ask the person concerned if they are real diplomas, but he might not react too favourably.

Anybody heard of APACT University? And if you have, is it genuine despite the degree mill appearance of this guy's diplomas? Just wondering. Pete

I found this web site www.apact.co.uk although I am not sure this is the same institution to which you referred in your post.

Welcome aboard to both of you.

Horne: No, it's not. APACT UK is an academic conference rather than a school of any type.

Pete: What's the field of study? I have never heard of the school (if it exists).

BTW, watch out for somebody in your home town who claims stuff from Buxton University. For sure that one's not real. We had this Darlinghurst dynamo here shilling for Buxton. But that's another story...

Just in case; here is one that sounds similar:

    IMPAC University is DETC accredited

    www.impacu.edu

I may have missed the boat since I assume you looked closely at the diploma. If so then please excuse my incorrect post.

    Pete:

Can you provide more information? Are these degree diplomas or certificates of completion?

There are plenty of "universities" out there which are not universities but rather corporate training entities. "Hasselblad University" and "Macromedia University" come immediately to mind, but there are many, many others. Some of them confer certificates of completion of this or that workshop or program.

Now, if APACT is conferring bachelor, master, or doctoral degrees, that is a different matter.

    ;)

    APACT is legit afterall

Thanks to everyone who responded - I appreciate the effort to help out a newbie.

Horne: I found that site too - but it is nothing like the diplomas on display, so I dismissed it as merely similar. It was one of the things that made alarm bells begin to ring faintly (so many degree mills are 'similar' to legitimate organisations). But thanks anyway.

Uncle Janko: Thanks for the welcome. From the testamur printed on the diploma, it appears the field of study is IT. Not surprising under the circumstances.

I see from another thread that you have abandoned political comments here at DegreeInfo. Please do not abandon us completely.

Fed: Close but no cigar. It was definitely APACT university. But thanks for going to the trouble of looking. I appreciate your attempt to help me out.

Marylind: You gottit! I asked another colleague who works with the holder of the odd _diploma_, and it seems that APACT university is a legitimate corporate training entity within the corporation where we work (I work for a global American IT company down here in Oz).

Anyway, thanks all, sorry for wasting your time. When I lurked here, people who asked questions before doing necessary research irritated me. Now I am guilty of it too. Mea culpa.

    Thanks again, Pete
