Is anyone familiar with The Yorker International University? It seems to have recognition in many countries. Also there is at least 20 web pages of listings on Google.

Please note one of their web pages show passive acceptance by President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. And another page shows former President Jimmy Carter on it.

I am looking at obtaining an Honorary Doctorate Degree. I have over 25 years progressive professional experience in government administration and private industry.

    I appreciate your review.

This isn't a real university, Ray.

Also, why do you desire an honorary doctorate?

    Welcome to the board.

Thanks Uncle Janko. I am just looking for a way to validate my experience in terms of academic recognition. Are there any other universities you might recommend where one could obtain an Honorary Doctorate without donating a million dollars or being a politician of celebrity? Unless you are rich or well known in may cases, you are out of luck at regular state or national universities.

Uncle Janko and Other Senior Members,

I was just reviewing a website that a senior member asked someone to refer to regarding a university. On the following website, The Yorker International University in Greece, a part of the original website I referred to above is mentioned. That would suggest it would be a legitmate university.

    http://univ.cc/search.php?dom=gr&key=&start=1

Again what I am attempting to obtain is an Honorary Degree, not an earned credential. I am going to do that within the next year. I am going to Iraq as a civilian for the Armed Forces and will have to delay any formal education until I return.

Thanks for Any Pointers! Please feel free to email me directly if you would like.

    Hi Ray:

I believe that there is an entry in *Bears' Guide* on Yorker.

I searched the Yorker website and found no reference to its possessing accreditation anywhere. There is a photo of a building labeled "Universite le Bon Samaritain", presumably in Abidjan, but no mention of any accreditation from the government of Cote d'Ivoire--I suspect that they are busy with other things just now. A google on them just leads straight back to the Yorker stuff.

As for the politicians' pix, I wouldn't read anything into that at all re Bush or Carter, and the recently controversial Buttiglione isn't any better. Also, the url is very deceptive. It makes you think of New York University, to which "Yorker" has no connection whatever.

I'd suggest you use the search function (upper right hand area of screen) to look for stuff on honorary doctorates. I'm afraid I know little or nothing about them.

This thread demonstrates the downside of honorary doctorates. Basically, what is being sought here is a diploma mill, in function if not in name. The existence of honorary doctorates gives people reason to think, “If Bill Cosby has a hundred honorary doctorates, and even Mike Tyson has a doctorate, why can’t someone just give me one, too?”

People also fail to consider that honorary doctorates do not have any academic or professional meaning. People do not legitimately practice law or medicine based on an honorary degree. People do not put honorary degrees on their resumes. Nobody calls Mike Tyson “Dr. Tyson”.

Actually, my guess would be that most do. Certainly not in the Academic Qualifications section, but quite possibly in the Awards and Achievements section.

Welcome aboard, Persia. The poster who started this thread is now milling about elsewhere. The rest of us thank you for your info which further deflated a millist balloon. Well done.
