I was wondering if anyone knew of any CLEP or DANTES type exams in Italian language that would be acceptable to Excelsior? I've seen that there are exams in French, Spanish, even German, but I haven't seen anything for Italian.

Do you have to be in high school to take AP exams? How many credits is the SAT II worth?

If I understand correctly, an adult may take AP Exams, too. The difference is that usually the high school student takes the AP course and then the corresponding AP exam while the adult would usually pick up some book called something like _How To Pass Your AP XXXXX Exam_ and then take the AP Exam. Not sure how many credits the SAT II is worth.

AP exams are usually offered just once at the end of the high school year. you would probably have to get in touch with a local high school to take it there. I took AP English Literature and Language back in 1998. Collegeboard has more information about taking AP exams on their website. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/about.html

This is the first I have heard of SAT subject exams offering any sort of college credit.

Try ACTFL's OPI oral and written exam. ACE has given them the recommendation to grant up to 12 credits pending the results for Italian. New York University also offers a 12 - 16 point exam. If you score at the superior level you can earn up to 16 credits in Italian.

    Good luck!
