Does anyone have experience with Australlian schools? Is there any schools that would not require having to to leave North America to earn my Doctorate. I have a BA, BEd and a MBA so my field of interest is Business. I have applied to CS but have been going through a run around of sorts. Also they initially told me no residemcy via email and now may be chaning their minds. Thanks

Welcome to the world of distance and research doctorates, which my daughter and I cover extensively in our book. We point out that each case is considered separately; there is rarely a firm policy. Depends on school, department, subject area -- and often, significantly, on whether you have someone on your side (a 'promoter') in the department.

From every letter we get from readers telling us they have arranged and are doing a nonresident one (or, in Australian cases, sometimes an arrangement whereby the student pays for one or two faculty to visit him/her!), there are two or three letters from people highly frustrated by the system and ready to opt out. But persistence seems to pay off in most cases.
