What kind of prospects are there for someone looking to teach ESL full time (not ESL as an add-on, but purely ESL) @ the Jr. High/Sr. High level?

Let's say you get your MA by Distance under your belt, and fulfill your requirements for the State in which you wish to teach (undoubtedly, this will vary from state to state; however, i'd like to hear overall impressions as well as specific cases.)
Are you faced with the same cutthroat competition as if you were seeking a University ESL job?

Is anyone out there teaching ESL full time in the US below the Uni level? Are you in an inner city? suburb? the countryside? Was there a long line of candidates? Did a "connection" help you get the job?

After teaching EFL in Japan for the last 4 years, Im seriously considering an MS Ed TESOL to advance my career in TESOL (esp. since i have no formal education background, other than my exp. in Japan) I am in a position to complete this degree online while teaching here in Japan, thereby hopefully increasing my prospects for teaching ESL back home in the US in JHS or SHS.

I'm not really interested in teaching subjects other than my chosen field, and so am hoping to make it as an ESL-only teacher.... am i nuts??!?!? :D
