Just a quick note to Nosborne and Novemberdude that I have received my offer of admission into the University of London's LLM external programme.

I should be learning the results of my performance on the New York State Bar exam some time within the next month. Results are usually released either 2nd or 3rd week of November.

If I pass, and given the recent difficulty of this Bar exam that is not necessarily a sure thing, I will likely enroll with either SPR or Law Tutors Online.

Given that the LLM exams are usually administed about 9 or 10 months from now, am I correct that the SPR and LTO don't actually begin their tuition until January or February? Is there anything I could be doing on my own until the tutorials begin?

In the alternative, if I don't pass the NY Bar, then my efforts will be focused on the February Bar exam, as beginning with the July 2005 NY Bar exam, the passing grade will increase 5 points every July for the next three years. Thus, the passing grade in July 2008 will be 15 points higher than the July 2004 exam.

Certainly don't expect to take that long to pass, lol ! I am anxious to begin the UoL program.

Nosborne / Novemberdude, any thoughts or suggestions re the use of tutorial services?

    Thanx!

Law Tutors OnLine start their LL.M. tuition in January 2005 but they have already published much of the course materials for crim law and sentencing. I recommend you sign up as soon as possible and begin. There is a MOUNTAIN of material to get through!

Congratulations! Good choice. I took a "one off" grad course at the U.London in the early 1990's. I remember the study materials as having been of high quality. And that the exam expected the same of me. I passed.
    Best wishes,
    Russell

Hopefully you will have good news on the NY Bar exam shortly. When you do, please remember to post it here so we can berate you with lawyer jokes.

I think Nosborne has already answered most of these questions, but let me have a go anyway.

1- As far as I understand it tutorials with LTO start in January for the LLM. I would imagine SPR is the same thing.

2- I was very pleased with the quality of materials produced by LTO for the LLB. I would imagine that for the LLM LTO would do a good job, but that is only a guess. I understand that SPR have a good reputation and it would seem that either LTO or SPR is a good choice.

3- Based on my LLB experience and what Nosborne has posted here I would suggest that you start studying for UoL the minute you find out that you've passed the NY Bar.

4- I would not consider trying the LLM without tutorial support, but maybe that's just me.

5- Q: What do you call 500 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A: A good start. (Do lawyer jokes violate TOS?) Okay, I'm just kidding.

I expect that you will really enjoy the LLM. Best of luck with it, and keep us posted. I am going to be extremely curious to hear how you rate the LLM materials vs your JD (and other) studies.

Thanx to all for the kind words and encouragement!

That pretty much sounds like a game plan. The moment I learn that I've passed the NY Bar, whether this past July's or this upcoming February's, I'll immediately start the LLM studies.

Of course, with a July pass I'll plan on sitting the 2005 UoL exams, and with a February pass, I'll plan on sitting the 2006 exams. Seems the wisest decision.

As far as lawyer jokes, after being the one telling them for a number of years, I guess turnaround is fair play, to now be on the receiving end!

Thanx again for the words of wisdom!
