Summit University of Louisiana's mission is to bring back the joy of lifelong learning. Summit honors and validates teaching within the Learner's community and elevates it to the status it deserves. A school campus, a classroom, a required course, an assigned professor have never been the only routes to achieving knowledge and understanding how a person and the universe move together. For example, if a person has studied air conditioning repair on their own, has attended a workshop on the use of computers, or has had a series of religious discussions on the Old Testament at temple or a church, SUL will accept that learning for university credit. These credits can be applied to our degree program.

Learners deserve to be honored for finding persons and situations that bring education to life and make the learning process an integrative affair between theory and practice. Credits achieved (earned) through respected institutions, personal studies, seminars, workshops, and private tutors are evaluated by SUL's Community Learning Validation Division. Summit does not offer its own courses or certificate programs. Summit University of Louisiana is committed to respecting relevant life learning and the value of a person freely choosing resources within the community.

Dr. Joe Solanto is a provost for Summit University. For further information, please contact him at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx All successful Orca Counseling Hypnotherapy students will receive 15 C.E.U.'s from Summit University upon enrolling.

There is a very different new Summit University being operated by Elizabeth Claire Prophet's organization, bringing the teachings of the Ascended Masters, channeled by Mother, to all the Chelas.

Apparently they don't offer degrees or university credit, and this "university" of theirs is just a way of getting their revelations out to all their geographically dispersed followers.

No, I am not being funny. It was my understanding Summit was closed down by the State of Louisiana. Now, here is a very similar school apparently in operation. Their site is http://www.orcainstitute.com/orca6.html

The ORCA Institute was listed among many others in the Community Learning Validation Division on Summit's old website. The material you quote is directly off of those pages.

The listing as it appeared 8-01-00:
"ORCA Unstitute (The) #810-1255 Bidwell St, Vancouver V6G 2K8, Canada. Phone: 1-800-665-6722 Sheldom Bilsker, Director.
    Counseling Hypnotherapy Certificate Programs"

The Orca Institute was offering Summit credits for some of the courses we offer. As far as we know Summit no longer exists and the page referring to them is now down. Dr. Joe Solanto ceased to be a provost for Summit about 8 months ago. Sheldon Bilsker, Director, The Orca Institute.

    Hi,

I think American Coastline U. (from the same late founder as Summit) is operating - see http://www.amercoastuniv.edu

Unfortunately, I can't see the details of "Adult Education" since the word "adult" causes instant ISP blocking for me here.

Just goes to show how careful one needs to be ....

But I do recall seeing an old pal Quinn Tyler Jackson on the faculty - which for me means that some decent (alternative education) work is probably being done there.

    Regards,

    Neil

Fascinating. Is there an available list of words you can't use? (I guess the list itself would be inaccessible, though. I remember when journalism schools studied, with great interest, the time when the Supreme Court of the US ruled on which seven words could be considered obscene under federal law. Some newspapers actually printed those seven words in the article -- the San Francisco Chronicle was one -- never before and never since.)

I wonder if the excellent Adult Education Network (AEDnet) has considered offering an
Ad**t Education Network, for access in the Middle East.

John Bear, whose book hasn't yet
been banned in the UAE, it seems,
    despite its racy illustrations

    Hi John,

Just by trial and error - although I did get the ISP to unblock ACU's "Adult Education" link.

The ACU site has changed a lot from memory, with now no faculty details and I understand some corporate change in ownership is in progress. They are currently not accepting any enrolments.

Using Alta Vista on any search here containing the words "adult education" used to get an immediate block but is now a bit smarter. Other search engines were OK at that time.

Word searches such as "Middlesex Cricket Club" also had the same effect.

Sorry to say, I didn't see any copies of BG14 on sale at the recent Dubai Education Exhibition which had a strong DL focus .....

I dare say the "issue" could be tested by submitting a copy for approval to the authorities here, but perhaps better not to try at all !

Actually, the UAE has a good ISP which even promotes discussion groups not usually associated with this part of the world. Check out Talk Corner at www.emirates.net.ae

    Cheers,

    Neil
