Touro University International (TUI) is reported to be up for sale. They claim to have 5,000 students and 900 PhD students. Asking price is over $50,000,000. Why would Touro College be wanting to sell TUI if everything's o.k.? Somebody's crazzzy and it isn't me. Anybody got additional info?

A better question would be "does anybody have any info at all?" Until we have a reference for the above, we have none. Please provide it.

If TUI is a non-profit organization, then technically speaking, can it be sold?

Sure. Someone owns it, regardless of its tax status. I think.

NTU was a non-profit university that was sold to a for-profit company (Sylvan Online Higher Education).

Yes. The University of Sarasota was once a not-for-profit institution that was sold to Argosy. I think UoP also bought several small non-for-profit colleges during the years.

I want to put my two cheles in this one, when I was looking at Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University for my MBA in accounting. Both Universities part of the public system, I was outrage to find out, that me a resident of state of Florida had to pay over $18,500 to study at FIU and $25,000 for FAU for an MBA.

That is similar tuition for private schools or out state tuition. I asked them why so expensive; they stated that these are separate programs for the institutions. This smell like for profit and business venture to me. FIU eliminated the regular MBA program, which cost about $9,000, so tuition in the new venture increased for over 100%.

FAU was kindly enough to leave both regular and separate venture, to benefits both working student and traditional students. Nevertheless, I wonder how long this consideration will last, knowing that lots of revenue comes from working adults and not regular students. I do have a problem with institutions that say they are non-for profit but certainly act as if they are for profit.

900 PhD Students? Wow!!. I assume that at least half are in business administration since they only offer two PhDs. This number is higher than the complete number of PhDs students in Business Administration in all universities in Canada. Not-for profit? Right!!

I guess I don't get the point of the post, and the troll comment. I think it is safe to say it is not true (from the searches I conducted and came up with nothing). It didn't hurt anything, but and I guess that would have been the point (with my understanding of trolls). I just don't get it.

Although TUI has been deemed to be "separately accreditable" that is, an independent campus, it is still a "branch campus" of Touro College (TC). I do not see the plausibility in selling just one campus!!! Also, does TUI have its' own charter or does it operate under Touro College's charter (NY)? I would assume that TUI has its own charter since it offers PhD degrees, and TC is not chartered to do so.

Re: Re: Re: Touro up for sale!

I'm sorry you don't get it. There's probably a lot of things you don't get. Maybe it has something to do with your definition of troll.

My definition includes those who come here to offer "sensational headlines" that offer specific details (like the $50M figure mentioned in the orginal post), yet fail to cite the source of those details. Instead of asking if TUI is up for sale, the poster states that it is reported to be. Reported by whom?

But again, you have your definition of troll and I have mine. Hope this helps. If not, try not to let it bother you too much.

It was an honest question. I am not knee deep in the debates most of the time, and think you need to remember, not everybody can be. I understand this person is stirring trouble and I can't find that the original posting has merit. I was asking why they do so, as it doesn't seem to do anything but show they are silly. I have seen the word troll thrown around, and I am simply asking the question. I don't have a definition of troll, so asked a simple question.

P.S. - I caught the couple of "better than thou" comments, and sorry, you are not better than anyone else here, so get off your soap box, questions are allowed.

Yup, it's a troll--some guy who has it in for Touro like the Annamese goon squad had it in for Akamai. And, no, I have no connection with Touro, either.

    Han,

Using your words, I see you still "don't get it". Sigh.

    Still, all the best,

    Be careful Uncle Janko,

Han "doesn't get" the whole troll thing. Can you shed any light for him or her? I tried.

OK, so my understanding of a troll was someone who is "for" degree mills. I think the above posting is a lie, but I don't understand how this is a comment "for degree mills". I am not agreeing with the comment, just don't understand the jump to a troll, but maybe I don't understand a troll.

If you have the time, or desire, please let me know your thoughts. If not, I won't lose sleep over it. :D
