I recently received an unsolicited email from Renshaw's College in Belfast. Does anyone on the Board know anything about them? Are they accredited? The material they sent me seems sincere, but I want to be sure before I sign up for anything. Any relevant comments are appreciated!
Mmmm, I'd be careful. Check this out... http://www.manitouheights.org/inter-l/2000/Apr/0100.html Can't seem to find any other URL's on them either. Cheers, George ------------------ Virtual Universities of Australasia & the World www.virtualuniversities.net [email protected]
The text of an email touting Renshaw's College can be found by doing a Usenet-wide search at Google groups and following the news.admin.net-abuse return. Email contact addresses for the school include AOL and Yahoo addresses. An entity called Academic Marketing Management is mentioned. Mount up, the game is afoot. ------------------ Bill Gossett
The 'Belfast Telegraph's' "Exile's Club" website has a gentleman in Canada expressing nostalgia for: I wonder if "Renshaw's College" started out as a Queens University student joke (a pub popular with students), and subsequently turned into a kind of business.
This could lead to an entirely new classification system for less-than-wonderfuls: Universities operated from pubs Universities operated by small ISPs Universities operated from residences Universities operated from cellphones Sub-categories could include the number of state/national borders they've crossed to stay ahead of the law and whether they rent their mailbox umcampus from Mailboxes, Etc., another franchiser, or use that of their registered agent. ------------------ Bill Gossett
I choose this category, Bill! It would be so convenient for the mill operators. If they had a lap-top and photocopier in their vehicle, they could actually enroll students, receive financial transactions, review submitted work, and print a diploma, all while being chased down I-40 by the FBI. Man, this degree mill life is great ain't it.
We need to include institutions run from pizza parlors, as in the case of the Calgary Institute of Technology, whose telephone was answered "Spiro's Pizza."
Hey, St Clements University http://www.stclements.edu is run from a pub, right next door to the South Australian Accreditation & Registration Council! It's the local watering hole for the resident public servants. Cheers, George PS Would you like your PhD shaken or stirred sir??? ------------------ Virtual Universities of Australasia & the World www.virtualuniversities.net [email protected]
There is a website! http://www.renshaws.org/ From their About Renshaw's page: "Renshaw's College is situated in Belfast, adjacent to its first home and to the campus of Queen's University." The mailing address given is that of The Mount Business and Conference Centre, http://www.the-mount.co.uk/ , which appears to be a very up-scale business services provider. The domain was registered on 4-09-01 to a firm of solicitors, The Preston Partnership at http://www.preston-partnership.co.uk/ ------------------ Bill Gossett
Appears Cyprus is now the chosen URL for Renshaws, but office is in the UK http://renshaws.ac.cy Cheers, George
well, look at this! In the Renshaw page http://renshaws.ac.cy/founder_renshaws.php it says When John W. Renshaw took over as owner and principle of Shaftesbury House Tutorial College in 1911... This is a name we have seen before, in a related context: see the "Shaftesbury University" entry page at http://www.shaftesburyu.org.uk/. (more info can be found at http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/oregon_north_dakota/index_or.html#shaftesbury_university.) I see that Renshaw's claims accreditation from the United States Distance Learning Association which also includes in its member list at http://www.usdla.org/html/membership/organizMembers.htm Almeda College and University, Farington University, and so on. G
And non-profit members or the USDLA are: Atlantic International University Berne University Renshaw's College Trinity International University amongst a string of others.... See http://www.usdla.org/html/sponsorships/nonProfit.htm Cheers, George
