I am getting ready to enroll in a PhD ( International Business) at Northcentral and would like to hear from anyone who has gone the same route
How was your experience with them? The quality of the program?

Contact former students as I did. Got good recommendations from all I contacted. Enrolled at NCU, took the first class and drop the (was very disappointed) university later. To be honest there are better options out there for the same price and with better Quality.

Possible you will need to experience the process yourself, in order to formulate your own opinion or perception, just as I did and some others members in this board that enrolled at the University and then later drop the program. However, then what is suitable for you, it may not be suitable for others.

Touro is still a good option.

Sure is! As soon they start accepting PhD students again!:D Argosy University also may be good program as well. Of course, you do not mind the residency requirements and you are close to a Campus (at least two hours drive); I am convinced that the residency and networking with other students and professors is very important!

I am half way through my first class - LS6010. It is incredibly boring. The class outline is a little tough to follow, but I think it is because I have not goten used to the Electronic Library yet.

I am thinking of dropping out because it is so boring and the detail of APA is so anal. It is not my thing. I explain my frustration to my advisor at NCU and he emailed the course outline for one of the MIS classes. It looks much more interesting. I may take another class and see how it goes.

The quality is challanging but not impossible.

The customer service is outstanding. I would rate it as equal to COSC. The customer service at TUI was fair, they called back within several days if at all; NCU calls back within hours if they can answer your question on the spot.

I'm going to side with Randell, the initial classes are tedious but that could be a function of me as much as the classes. The only feature of NCU that is a plus over other programs is the ability to take one class at a time and pay as you go. Very responsive faculty and administration. Website sucks, logo needs work.

If you are a self starter, work well without lectures, including DVDs, and want to work more or less at your own pace then NCU might be a fit.

I am still evaluating whether I will continue at NCU and will make a decision based upon the content of my concentration classes. Having the same concerns on quality as others I had my classes evaluated for transfer to other RA schools. The three I contacted all accepted the credits after reviewing the syllabi of the courses. I intend to use these towards another masters degree. (I think this fact goes directly to Rich Douglas' emphasis on utility.) Since schools from different accreditors and regions accepted the credits I am comfortable with basic acceptance of the degree.

I will caveat that I am only working on the degree for personal goals so the format works for me at this point. You might want to consider a program that will provide better network opportunities if International Business is your goal since you will have limited ability to do so with NCU. Students do form study groups and routinely interact in the available forums.

I guess Touro is accepting new PhD applications. Though I am not sure about it. Check this link https://cnsss.tourou.edu/public/application.php and also give them a call if you are interested.

    Disclaimer: Former Touro Student.

    Good Luck

Is NCU a fast food university?

I tried the University of Phoenix, but withdrew after completing one class. The UoP class took me around 5 or 6 weeks to complete. I also tried Northcentral University, but withdrew from that school also. I completed the NCU three-credit doctoral course in less than a week.

I would never re-enroll in UoP or NCU. However, NCU is rather new, so it has not developed a reputation yet, as has UoP. But if the NCU class that I completed is any indication of the quality of NCU’s academic coursework, then they too will eventually develop a reputation similar to UoP. Would you like fries with that fast food burger?

I don’t know if I’ll ever enroll in a doctoral program, due to financial constraints, but if I do, it will probably be at Argosy University because they have a local campus in my city, so the residency requirement would be easy to fulfill.

But you'll have to make up your own mind. :)

It looks like they are; last week I was looking around and in the bottom of the application had a note that they were not taking new enrollment for the PhD programs. I look today is not there. Then again, it will be wise to call them!

I am thinking about the same thing. If I make up my own d**** mind. I am going back for the Accounting program at Argosy. I should have followed my own heart when I was making a decision and declined the idea of enrolling at NCU.

Having residency and face-to-face contact with students and professor, at the doctoral level is very important. I will probably have to drive two hours, but I know it will be worth it!

The closest campus to me is Sarasota. Still debating with the idea of spending $40k for the degree, but knowing my self, I will go ahead do it anyway and get over with. Besides, this will be the only thing that no one could take away from me.

LOL, you and I might see each other at the same Argosy campus!!! :p

The high cost of Argosy definitely concerns me, but the flip side is that the professors are close by. Frankly, I like having some face time with the professors and with the students because it can be richly rewarding and is an important part of the doctoral process. Networking is good!!! I don't mind taking online courses, but not 100% of the time -- I want that face time. :) Also, the Argosy student's that I've spoken with praised the school, which allayed my initial concerns.

I should be out of my financial mess by around December of 2005, so I'll be able to seriously consider Argosy at that time. Due to the high cost of Argosy, I will continue to "tighten the financial belt" so I can afford it. That means foregoing doing some important things, like changing the carpet & floors, buying a new house, etc. But I'm at a late stage in my life and have to ask the question: Which is more important, pursuing higher education (long run) or pursuing financial status (short run)? Who knows!!! I've got plenty of time to chew on it and don't have to make a decision right now. Besides, the break from academic studies is refreshing and is letting me recharge my batteries. :)

TUI Ph.D. Is Accepting New Applicants

The associate dean at TUI told me that they are accepting new applicants for its Ph.D. program on a very competitive basis.

Maybe the content has changed. I spent about 20 hours so far and only completed four of the ten assignments. I am not looking to start a "this school is great - no it sucks" arguement, but is it possible they have changed the course work after all the negative talk last time?

It is possible and to justified the high cost for this class! This class should have been 0-1 credit course.

I took LS6010 before I dropped out due to cost (it was either a PhD or medical insurance - the latter was more important to me).

I agre LS6010 was a bit dry but what my mentor suggested using the course to help prepare for ones dissertation. I chose to search out ethics since that was to be my next course (I always believe in leveraging courses if possible). The content of the course was relatively easy but the amount of work was equal to any of my masters courses.

I was really impressed by the on-line library and the ability to download the text of journal articles. The system for electronic submission of assignments, and subsequent retreival, was also very good.

I don't know if the curriculum has changed.
