Hi folks, a minister friend of mine who has heard me discuss this board posed a question that I could not assist with. The good rev d was inquiring as to whether any Lutheran seminaries offered grad level distance learning at the Mdiv or masters in theology or pastoral ministry level. I dont know if he is planning on leaving his denomination or seeking a lutheran afilliation or if further study is out of academic intrest. In either case I will advise him of the recommendations of this board. Gracias
Faith Seminary None of the ELCA seminaries offer a whole degree by dl but there is a collaborative effort offering online classes. Concordia Seminary in St Louis has some dl options but they don't lead to a masters degree. Moravian Theological Seminary (does theology in a Lutheran paradigm -- in communion with ELCA) has some distance learning options but not a complete program. North Park Theological Seminary (historically Lutheran -- does theology in Lutheran paradigm) offers all their programs through dl -- with short-term residency. If your friend already has an MDiv he or she can probably get into a DMin program at one of the Lutheran schools. These programs are field based with dispersed residency or short-term on-campus residency.
