I'm currently living and teaching in Korea and am interested in a grad level degree in Education Technology and am not interested in paying nearly US$15,000 for a degree from Capella University! I'm paying out of my pocket and would like some info on finding the bigest bang for the buck! Thanks.

You may want to check out University of Calgary (in Alberta, Canada). The Faculty of Education offers MEd and MSc degrees in various specialization, one of which is Educational Technology.

One can choose on-campus or distance learning. For the distance mode, the courses are delivered through the Web, but there are two short summer residential sessions on the Calgary Campus during the program's duration (appro. 2 years).

U of Calgary is very reputable and is a large research and comprehensive university with all the usual going-ons (Medicine, Law, Architecture school, etc.). One can't go wrong with a degree from U of Calgary.

California State University, Hayward offers an MS in Education with a specialization in Online Teaching and Learning. It looks to me like this program leans less towards the technology itself than towards the educational uses of that technology.

The program consists of ten courses at $595/course, totaling $5,950.

As a non-Texas resident the tuition won't be much less than at Capella, but you might want to check out the MEd in Educational Technology offered through the University of Texas telecampus program. It can be done completely on-line.

Jimwe: In another thread, you said that you enrolled in the CSU-Hayward Master's program in Online Learning and Teaching. I would like to hear how it is working out for you. A kind of longitudinal perspective, if you will. Thanks.

I can't imagine that you will be able to find a better deal anywhere than the online MS program in Instructional Design and Technology at Emporia State University in Kansas. It is a well structured, 36 credit program that is available totally online. The department chair, Dr. Armand Seguin, has been helpful and informative in my inquiries about the program. Best of all, the current cost of a 3-credit course is $403, regardless of residency. ESU's School of Education enjoys a good reputation, due largely to its origin as the normal school for the state of Kansas.

If you are looking for a bigger name school, the University of Missouri-Columbia offers an excellent 32 credit MEd program online at a cost of $188/credit. I can attest from personal experience that it is a rigorous program with a knowledgable and helpful faculty. No campus visits are required, and the large number of courses available online from Mizzou allow for a good level of customization of the degree. In fact, the university has allowed a number of students to put together personalized EdS programs from the offerings available (and a little bit of transferred residential credit in research from convenient local universities).

I have heard favorable things about the Cal State-Hayward program and the online MS in Adult Learning and Technology from the University of Wyoming, as well. Both of these are priced right around $200/credit.

There are many other RA schools out there offering online educational technology degrees. However, these four offer more "bang for the buck" than any others I have uncovered.
