Hey guys. I got a unofficial review from Excelsior. I have an extensive academic background. They say I need 30 credits to obtain a degree in General Business. I just finished 3 CLEPS so the amt. is down to 21. I talked to a counselor from Charter Oak(great customer service) and they feel they can get me even closer to their degree in Individualized Studies(may already meet all requirements) or Concentration in Business. Which degree would be most marketable in your opinion and has anyone gotten good feedback job-wise with a Charter degree in Individualized Studies? Thanks...

I would go with the college that is going to get you the degree the fastest. If you feel that Charter Oak would be better, then you could consider going that route. They both have the same accreditation, so that would not make a difference in terms of marketability.

I would imagine both are marketable in the sense they are RA. I would consider cost as well as a decision factor. I also am awaiting Excelsior's evaluation as well and hope that it will not require much to complete.

On a side note, I simply do not like the name Charter Oaks. Nothing against it, I just think of the alcohol rehabilitation center named Charter oaks next to my church I grew up in. My grandmother checked herself into it after my grandfather past away. Sad memories. The name just has a rap with me. Sounds crazy I know and Iam sure no one has that same perception of the name though.

One possible problem with Charter Oak is that all its degrees are in General Studies with concentrations, while Excelsior offers actual majors. If you plan on attending graduate school, it probably will not make much difference. On the other hand, if you plan on letting your B.S. stand alone it might be better to have a major in business instead of a major in general studies with a concentration in business. The Charter Oak option could require more explanation during a job interview.

    Charter Oak State College

As you know the school has been around for some 40 years and accredited. It is funded by state of CT. I teach health administration there and many of the students (only admit above junior college level) are Aetna employees. I do not know outcome studies other than the school only teaches online and has a good rep.

Look on the back of the Connecticut state quarter; that's the Charter Oak in question.

I have not had anyone question my BS from COSC. I completed the BS in Individualized Studies (with a concentration in Business & Technology). A BS in General Studies in the correct name. This was discussed in Another thread

My employer card if it was accreditied and besides that , I used it to get into an RA grad school
