Has Any One Taken Excelsior's INL 102? (Information Literacy)
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of Excelsior's Information Literacy course? I have heard that it can be done in one weekend. But, opinions vary. What does the course consist of...assignments and such.

I took it a few weeks ago and did the whole thing in one afternoon. There were five quizzes and the final. I'd recommend that you do the required reading as I found some of the material on the test that was glossed over lightly on the quizzes.
You need to have a good grasp of the MLA, APA citation styles and basic internet knowledge. If you do the required reading you should do fine. I didn't and as I took the test I wished I had.
I hurried through it and managed to get an 80. The quizzes were graded instantly but the final took a few hours to get a grade back. There were 50 questions on the final. Good luck.
Thanks for discussing your experience with Excelsior's INL102. I hope you don't mind a few follow-up questions:
1) You said that the test covered "...MLA, APA citation styles...". I thought that MLA & APA citation styles were different and mutually exclusive. Am I confused, or does Excelsior actually expect one to have an in depth knowledge of two contradictory citation styles?
2) You said that you were able to complete the course in an afternoon. Does this mean that all the exams (including the final) can be done online, unproctored, and at ones discretion, or did you mean that you did the bulk of your studies over the course of an afternoon (presumably because you were already familiar with the subject)?
Each of the five quizzes was alloted 20 minutes and had a count down timer showing elapsed time. I never spent more than five minutes on any of the quizzes and found them to be easy. The final exam didn't display a timer but according to the instructions had a time limit of 150 minutes. I finished in plenty of time.
INL 102 is a one credit course and is not given a letter grade. It will show as a pass or fail depending on how you do on the final. The five quizzes don't count in your grade but they must be taken before you can do the final. You can retake it immediately if you fail but you have to repay the full cost of $240 for the course which is the standard cost for each credit hour taken through Excelsior.
