Funny! That's funny. I agree, but then you might only attract Baby Boomers and not very many outside of that? Maybe it should be called "Stawberry Fields University" or "Plasticine U..." ... "Mermelade College"... "Nowhere U"... "Hey Jude U"... "I'm a loser U"...
new logo You know, I'm such a nerd, I actually wrote to university services asking for permission to post the new logo publicly! I quite like it, although I'm surprised they apparently are changing the school colors, too. Opinions, anyone? Cheers, Adrienne
Congrats, Blackbird! I think the last time I read one of your postings, you were still in the comps stage. Congrats to moving to candidacy! Good luck with the dissertation. Cheers, Adrienne
Thanks! Thanks, Adrienne! Those comps were brutal even though not as abusive as your typical brick and mortar doctoral comp process. I had to write 6 papers of which I had to re-write a few of them and re-edit about 3-4 times four of them. I was shocked when my last one was approved without editing needed. My conference with the committee was not too bad. It helps a lot to have your papers summarized in Power Point format and then send them to your profs. I highly recommend that process. I know that Capella has changed the comp process some and now is requiring a person to do them in two quarters versus the old one quarter system with an extension. I did mine in two quarters since I would have lost my wife and my dog if I had tried it in one. I think they have also changed the topic selection process. Anyhow, when you get to your dissertation committee selection process, feel free to email me for recommendations of who to pick outside of your school specialization for that 4th committee member. If you don't mind having a School of Psychology professor I can point you in various directions. My email is [email protected] and even though I am known here by BlackBird, my non-Beatle name is Samuel Lopez De Victoria. Have a great day!
Re: Thanks! Good luck! I just notice that you are from down here. Perhaps, we can exchange ideas someday.
Re: Thanks! Hmm, this is interesting. From what I understand, the new comp system starting Jan 05 is 4 papers, shorter length, but done in one quarter with no iterations -- in other words, they pass, or fail. If fail, you get one re-do, and then you're out. At least, that's what I understand for the School of Business, that it's going more toward a B&M model of comps. I'm a year off from that, so I guess I won't worry about that anytime soon! Thanks so much for this offer! Since I'm quite a ways off from my dissertation, I haven't put too much thought into this. I know I could take the option of having a committee member from outside Capella, and that's a possibility, since I'm (gulp) starting a research project, building a theoretical model, with one of the top scholars in the field of expatriate adjustment next month. If our working relationship becomes as convivial and congenial as I hope it will, then I will probably ask him, since expat issues will likely be the guiding topic of my diss. However, it's too early to tell yet, so I will certainly keep your offer in mind! What's your dissertation topic, Samuel? Cheers, Adrienne
Re: Re: Thanks! Adrienne, I am still playing around with a concept and starting to refine it. I'll probably be doing something about "Wife anger correlated to husband emotional absence in Hispanic families." I am debating how qualitative (heuristic method) or quantitative (Anova, regression analysis, etc.) I should make it. I'm talking to some friends that have their doctorates already.
