    From their marketing e-mail:

The fall term is fast approaching at American InterContinental University Online, and so is a scheduled tuition hike. However, if you act fast and enroll by October 18, you can still lock in current tuition rates.

Quality AIU Online degree programs. Amazing multimedia online classes. A timely opportunity to get your Bachelor's degree in only 13 months* or your Master's degree in just 10 months! And now...a chance to save money by enrolling by October 18!

Yes, it is pricey. So are lots of other online and traditional colleges.

I work for an online RA institution, and I always find it a little puzzling and interesting that so many students believe that online should equal fast and cheap.

"Fast" can be done at quite a few schools. My quip with AIU Online has always been that they are far over priced for what they offer. AIU Online offers several business degrees with the Bachelor's Degree Completion running over $27,000 & with ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NO business accreditation such as the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) or Asscociation of Collegiate Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP).

Now, while ACBSP is generally looked at as the "stronger" business accreditation, IACBE still offers some kind of programmatic accreditation. Bellevue University is regionally & IACBE accredited and offers a bachelor's degree completion in 15 months (vice AIU's 13 months), but at a fraction of the cost. A measly two months longer, but a lot more money in my pocket and at least some kind of business accreditation?

If I were in the hunt for a business degree and was looking for something accelerated, I'd be all over that like white on rice in a glass of milk on paper plate in a snowstorm!

The whole point of AIU IS fast. So fast that when we ran the numbers it is impossible to get the kind of hours that regional accreditation requires. Repeat IMPOSSIBLE.

The second gripe is quality. AIU seems to offer kmart quality with Saks Fifth Ave. pricing. It is certainly no bargain.

Also realize the $27,000 is for the last two years of a four year degree. You have to transfer in or test out of the first two.

If someone finds AIU the right choice for them, I have no argument with them, but I would NEVER recommend them to any one.

    Quality using what criteria?

    - If it were so impossible, then why do they still hold their regional accreditation (SACS) IN GOOD STANDING?

    - Why wouldn't you recommend the program to anyone? A side question to this one is: what criteria are you using to judge quality?

    - What do you think of AIU's MBA program?

I'm currently enrolled in their sister school, Colorado Technical University <www.ctuonline.edu> in their MS in business Management; 15 month program. Regionally accredited <check: http://www.chea.org/institutions/action.cfm?CheaID=823.0>.

As far as I'm concerned, if you get what you were looking for out a school (as with any product or service), then it served it's purpose. I want to move up in the world, and I know that having these pieces of paper will allow me to get where I want to be. (for example, putting in an officer package if currently enlisted....you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university).
