    7. PUBLIC FORUM FRAUD ALERT:

There are also some public forums such as "degreeinfo.com" that in our opinion are disreputable and rife with misinformation, profanities, and racist remarks. Their members are known to use incredibly foul and vulgar language, make what can only be referred to as racist and sexist remarks, shameless self promotion, touting of booklets, so-called degree guides, unaccredited schools, and to defame legitimate schools. Of course, not all of their content is inaccurate, but by their own claims these public forums are not to be relied upon as any type of research or as a reference.

Please report any defamation of St Regis University and include as much information as possible. St Regis University will use personal, career, media, forum posts, written materials, recordings, or any other information against individuals who attempt to smear or damage our reputation or make any false claims. REPORT SLANDER/LIBEL

The "edu" means it is a valid university and ".lr" stands for Liberia, our home country.

It is virtually impossible for a ''bogus'' college or university to obtain a web address with an ''.EDU'' suffix unless they are using one from a country other than from their home country. Colleges are thoroughly scrutinized before domain naming authorities will grant an EDU domain name.

    Incredibly foul language?

I've never encountered that here. I wonder where they came up with that?

Me neither - no foul language here. (for the most part)

I hope DI.com keeps up the good fight - I have learned quite a bit about degree mills in the past 3-4 months. I am glad that I came across this site.

I have never been asked to get involved from DI, but I would, if there needs to be support, funding, or contacts to our government for this kind of slander. They should watch themselves!

Degree mills, by their conspiratorial nature, have many stakeholders. There is great damage to be withstood when degree mills are uncovered, most of which is done to the purchasers. This is why I'm puzzled that St. Regis hasn't renamed/:relocated" itself.

This may be true now (since EDUCASE took over the .EDU registration); however, in the past, many "less than wonderful" institutions have been able to secure a .EDU domain name.

The current policy (from EDUCAUSE's website) is:

"Institutions that do not already hold a name in the .edu domain are eligible to receive one if they are post-secondary institutions that are institutionally accredited, i.e., the entire institution and not just particular programs, by agencies on the U.S. Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies (see recognized accrediting bodies). These include both "Regional Institutional Accrediting Agencies" and "National Institutional and Specialized Accrediting Bodies." Note that institutional accreditation is required for .edu eligibility; program accreditation is not sufficient."

    However...

"All institutions holding names as of October 29, 2001 in the .edu domain will be allowed to keep them without regard to institutional eligibility requirements at this time."

Hey Tony - I was just getting ready to post this information. I should have known you would have it. There are quite a few .edu domains that are not representative of today's standard, which has always surprised me, because back when my former institution, ISIM/Aspen, applied for the .edu we had to work very hard to get it because we were "only DETC accredited." Wouldn't it be great if they had not grandfathered in the schools that were approved prior to the current standards. Oh well, I have always been a bit of a dreamer...

Does this policy apply to a '.edu.lr' domain registration?

Hi rajyc - I must confess that I'm uncertain about how I should interpret your post. My own meager research indicates that Liberia is a war-torn country where enough money will buy you virtually anything. Unrest and even combat continues and even the most established universities are having difficulty in continuing their operations. In fact, there is some substantial conflict over the most recent appointment at the University of Liberia. The established political aparatus has a history of corruption and there are continuing investigations into these areas. Are you truly trying to say that it is impossible for an illegitimate enterprise to exist in this environment? Please clarify your position.

Now why did they have to nitpick on an a thread which contains profanity when it is irrelevant to their so called "institution." Childish if you ask me.

Some university! They ignore the issues brought up on DI and simply resort to fallacious "ad hominem" attacks and "poisoning the well" in order to discredit those on DI who stand up to them.

Apparently critical and logical thought is not terribly important to SRU!

Yep, critical and logical thought is foreign to these people!

Truth is not negated because it is presented on a public forum...another feeble attempt at "poisoning the well."

Members of Degreeinfo have been "defaming" *SUPREME SARCASM HERE FOLKS* SRU for quite some time and I have yet to hear of anyone here getting sued...Hmmmm I wonder why?

Not really, in the past it was really easy to get an .EDU domain. Even the best known degree mill trinity college and university has it own .EDU domain

    http://www.trinity-college.edu/

The encyclopedia mentions it as a well known diploma mill
