I am considering Nova Southeastern for my grad school and would like some opinions. I am currently working as a software engineer with an undergrad in Business Administration. I would like a specialized degree (more so than the flooded general MBA's) so I am considering the MS in Management Information Systems. But I am also interested in the MBA with a focus in MIS. Any thoughts on which would open more doors? Any experience in these programs?

Both are excellent programs, except that M.S. program is more technical than MBA. Besides, M.S. is awarded by the School of Computer and Information Sciences (SCIS), while MBA in Information Systems is awarded by the School of Business. A typical MBA student specializing in Information systems takes courses from two schools (SCIS and School of Business).

I've been back and forth with a similar problem over the years (MBA or MS). Both degrees will open many doors - it ultimately depends upon which doors you want to open. I do believe, however, that an MS in MIS will provide one with several of the key MBA-type coursework (Accounting, Finance, OB, etc.) while providing solid grounding in the technology-related MIS coursework. Even if a business management position is your ultimate goal, an MS in MIS (compared to an MBA in MIS) should open most doors labled "MBA Required".

    Good luck
