Hello All! I am looking for help from somone who is in or has gone through the Excelsior BS/CIS program. I am looking to earn a CIS degree through Excelsior, as this program seems extremely flexible and meets my busy schedule as a working adult with a family to support. I also reside in NY. I currently already hold a BS from a Middle States accredited school (different discipline, however) and some certifications. Here are my questions:

1.) Does the online application cost anything to have an "unofficial" evaluation of credits that would transfer to the program? Do I have to have transcripts sent there (my BS transcipt, A+ certifcations, etc.) at the same time?

2.) Do they give credit for attending and finishing Microsoft certified classes? What I'm talking about here is the the classes that prepare you to take the MCSE tests, you know, the ones that cost $2000-$2500 dollars? I took two Windows 2000 Microsoft certified classes to prepare for 2 of the Windows 2K MCP tests. I have not taken the certification tests, however.

3.) How liberal are they at accepting credits from someone who already holds a BS, so that I do not have to fulfill the "arts and sciences" portion of the degree, only the CIS specific stuff?

4.) Does Excelsior give 30 CIS specific credits for passing the GRE Computer Science subject test?

5.) Can you complete the degree by passing ONLY exams(Excelsior tests, etc.)? [I'd really like not to have to take courses if at all possible, but rather study independently for the exams and passing them for credit]

6.) I have 5 years of work experience in the field. Is there a way to articulate what I've LEARNED on the job and be given credit for it?

7.) I have certifications through companies for networking and copier repair (both digital and analog copiers) from Canon, Ricoh, IKON, etc. Do they give credit for these also?

8.) Financial aid question--is Excelsior able to participate in Stafford loan programs?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I am excited about this program, and just want to know what I can expect.

Thank you all for whatever help you can give me!

Excelsior has made accessing its website difficult so the most current info about the BS/CIS on this site will likely be revealed with a search.

Most of what you've asked "depends" but the info on the certifications and GRE stuff is here somewhere.

use the search function of the forum for the following:

    Excelsior AND BS/CIS

there seem to be many threads that might shed some light.

I don't have any first hand knowledge but thought I might offer the search suggestion just in case.

    Regards,
