I found a good site for quickly comparing some of the more popular online degree programs. They also have a helpful section that walks you through the federal financial aid process. Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://distance-learning-degree-programs.com
A decent, if brief, overview of information . . . including Google ads for mills. Who's the sponsor of this site? No 'About Us' link or anything.
I always find it mildly interesting when someone's very first post points us toward a "good resource." But that's just me. As to the Google ads for degree mills, I fight that on my three websites. The mills have many, many URLs and are always adding more. Even after you exclude one from your site, another comes along very quickly. K-W is particularly good at it. Tom Nixon
You can't really blame the site for the Google content. I run a couple of retail websites and according to the Google Adsense user aggreement, they are supposed to provide relevant streaming content. I don't know exactly what their definition of relevant content is but the degree mill thing is somewhat surprising. Usually they ban advertisers who are not offering a legitimate product. My guess is that those that do slip through will not be around for long.
TCNIXON: I agree, and the only three members / posters all joined on the same day - yesterday! LENDER: do you by any chance make educational loans? Hmmmm, something vewwy vewwy screwy here.
For those of you who insist that a simple discussion group posting is some kind of conspiracy on the scale of Watergate, I hate to dissapoint you all but I am a mortgage loan officer and you have not uncovered some sinister plot to take over the internet by offering up free information. If the link offered is not of interest to you, by all means please pass it up and go about your business.
I was a real estate agent (licensed 15 years) and a mortgage loan officer / branch mgr the the last 8...I see conspiracies everywhere. Informative site though.
