What is it about this test that makes it so diffcult? I haven't taken it yet because reading others' experiences here have kinda' dissuaded me from doing so.

But, was there anything specific on the test that was mentioned that somehow wasn't in the study guide? What study materials has everyone been using, or what materials would one recommend?

I passed this exam by the skin of my teeth (51). There is so much potential test information and related detail. Definately learn the legislative process; how a bill becomes a law. It's much more detailed than what we saw on Americ House Rock when we were kids. Also, know the major (and seemingly minor) points of the constitution from conception to present day application AND amendments. Landmark court cases are a big part of this exam, too; Roe v. Wade, Miranda, Dred Scott.

The American Government exam is different from an exam like Psychology or Sociology whereas you learn the major players, Jung, Freud, etc and thier theories and you can apply that knowledge to most of the exam.

If you are a "political" animal, i.e you listen to talk radio or keep up with current events, you'll have an edge. e.g if you know about the NRA, chances are you will know that the 2nd Amendment refers to the "right to bear arms".

IMO, taking this test is like making all the traffic lights on your way to work...sometimes you'll make 'em all...sometimes you'll seem to get caught by 'em all...but, most days it will be a combination. It just depends .

    Good Luck

I did no study and found it very, very easy, breezing through it in a little more than half an hour and scoring 72. However, I've worked in U.S. politics and grew up right outside Washington, D.C., so I expected to do well.

    Good luck!
