    For arguement's sake:

What would everyone consider (excluding the big three universities from this list: Excelsior, TESC, and COSC) to be the top ten most costly and the top ten least costly RA or DETC DL universities in the USA? In other countries? (I know that a South African education is significantly less). What about State approved?

The least expensive I have seen is in-state tuition for California community colleges.

    $18 a credit

Louisiana State University has online and independent study courses that are $211 for a three credit course. That's the best deal I've seen that doesn't require residency somewhere. One can't complete a degree that way, though.

For postgraduate level in the U.S. I think Fort Hays State University has everyone beat.

For RA IT/IS/CS graduate degrees it goes like this:

    Highest Tuition
    1) $4705/course - Carnegie Mellon University

    3) $3418/course - Columbia University

Honorable Mention (depends on how many courses taken)
    *) $5000/semester - Kennesaw State University

    Lowest Tuition
    1) $337/course - Dakota State University (In-State)
    2) $373/course - Columbus State University (In-State)

I got my MS at Southwest Missouri (Tier 2 State School in the rankings that came out earlier this year) for under $5k for the entire program. For the MS in Administrative Studies and the MS in Computer IT there is not distinction between in-state and out-of-state tuition. Some areas of emphasis include: Project Management, Applied Communications, Criminal Justice, and Environmental Management.

At something like $150 a module, with 30 modules for the basic BA, UNISA is the cheapest I know of.

In the UK, the Open University prices itself by the course, depending on the number of credit points the course carries and the subject area (business and computing are the most expensive), but it's still possible to complete the modules for a complete degree such as a BA in Business for about $5,000. Part time and DL courses from other institutions very much depend on the institution: MBAs are screamingly expensive, everything else is usually very well-priced. An MA from Birkbeck, for instance will set you back about $5-6,000 part-time over two years, ditto KCL or UCL.

As for most expensive in the US, it's probably got to be the Duke executive MBA by DL. Come to that, it's probably the most expensive DL course in the world.

One of the (few) benefits of a State Approved degree is the cost. $162 per unit at CCU for their masters programs. The now discontinued doctoral programs at CCU had a flat fee of around $4,500.

Which makes them slighlty higher than some accredited schools: (see: http://bain4weeks.com/mastermenu.html).

Regarding Masters degrees, the highest pricetag I remember is for that Duke University Executive MBA program. It topped out somewhere around 75K. I think the HUX programs at CSUDH are at least among the least expensive at 4.2K and the Anthropology programs at Wales-Lampeter run about 4.5K. That's quite a range.

Hi, JoAnn. You might want to add the MS in IS program at Tarleton State University to your list. I think it's $495/course for Texas residents.

Actually, the three executive MBA programs at Duke are even worse than that. The Weekend Executive is $77K, the Cross-Continent is $82K (not including travel costs to two overseas residencies) and the Global Executive is north of $100K. Even though my wife (whom I love dearly) is in the Cross Continent program, I'm not sure the Duke Executive MBA is worth the price, especially when other top-tier schools are 1/2 to 2/3 the price.

    A couple RA DL examples:

    Expensive:
    University of Maryland University College
$221 per credit for Maryland residents, $407 per credit for non-residents

    Inexpensive:
    Louisiana State University
$73 per credit, same rate for in-state as out.

UMUC's tuition is $339/hr for in-state and $553/hr for non-residents, $582/hr for MBA students and $829/hr for 700+ level courses. See UMUC tuition.

The non-resident tuition is pretty average given the universe of RA DL institutions. So I would definitely not classify it as expensive.

I'll make my usual University of Wyoming pitch. :)

Online UW classes are $87/credit hour plus a $40/hour technology fee. UW Flexible Enrollment classes are $87/credit hour plus a $10/course administration fee.
