Thanks to some of the links provided by you kind folks, I have looked at several community colleges that are hiring distance teachers. One such institution is Decker College. I did a search on it and nothing came up (on this site). So is this a reputable school or what? Would it be worthwhile to have something like this on a resume? While most require a completed Masters, this one (and a few others) only require a Bachelors. thanks, clint
cdhale, Only you are in a position to know your goals. I would encourage you to look at everything to know what type of job you are accepting. The first thing to notice is in the url for the school - it is .com not .edu A job is a job and there are many jobs that require teaching. Any opportunity to teach is useful in learning how to teach, however, that doesn't make you a college professor.
OK, here is my reasoning... I would like to teach at the collegiate level. It will about 3 years before I can do this full-time due to the fact that I am a missionary in Estonia, still working on my MA (soon to be MAs) and it will take that long to finish anyway. In my looking at the employment postings at a couple of college/university recruitment sites (such as Higher Ed Jobs and The Chronicle I noticed that they often wanted prior teaching experience. Of course, that is pretty difficult for me right now. I don't have the required education, at this point. I am in Estonia which is 8,000 miles away from the nearest US institution, etc. Imagine my glee when I noticed that a few places would employ someone like me for teaching DL classes. One or two are outright junior colleges that I can check out and don't see any problem with. But Decker was different. But what do I know? I just wanted to see if it was OK or not. I figure that though it isn't much, if it worked out where I could teach a few classes in the next few years then it would help my resume. So thats my thinking. clint
