    Dear all,

This is Ricky from HKG. I have a plan to study an MBA program ( if possible I prefer Online or Distance education ) in this year. I find that 2 universities they offer such MBA programs here. One is Pacifc Southern University CA and the other is Columbia Southern University. May I know which one is better ? DO you have any comment for these 2 universities ?

    Please let me know.

While both are technically legal, only Columbia Southern has recognized accreditation, from the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). However, this form of accreditation is not as widely regarded as regional accreditation. I would encourage you to learn as much as you can about accreditation if you are serious about taking a degree from a school in the U.S. You can find more information at http://www.degree.net/guides/accreditation.html

Arguably the best 100% NON-RESIDENT (before I get flamed) MBA is Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University.

You may want to consider an Australian school, many of whom offer distance MBAs that would work well for someone in your region. Also, International Management Centres offers graduate programs in Business in conjunction with Southern Cross University (in Australia). I believe they offer some residential sessions in Hong Kong.

    Hi, people!

Actually, I consider HW MBA an excellent choice not because it is 100% non-resident, but quite the contrary. Let me explain, please. What happens is that HW external program is exactly the same as the internal programme; they don't discrimintate its external students at all, so you get the same degree certificate, the same transcript, the same classes, etc. In addition, you can study residentially in Edinburgh for modules of 6 weeks each time. How many universities in the world can say that they offer the same? I can't think of many; in fact, I don't know of any. The few that I know that offer residential classes treat its distance students differently in one way or another.

    Fraternal regards,

Did you contact the british Council in Hongkong? I think they offer ( or used to )the Warwick MBA program ( which is AACSB acred, only one of the two British MBA which are accred) or the Imperial College MBA.

However both programs require short residency about 8 days for Warwick (I'm not sure whether that could that be fulfilled out of HK)and a few weeks for Imperial College.

    Best Regards

    Ricky,

Do you happen to have the web address for Pacific Southern University? They seem to be non-exsistent on the world wide web.

Check out Jonnies web site for a large list of DL MBA's. This site includes DETC MBA's. Your best bet is Regional accreditation or foreign equivalent. Next would be DETC. With so many affordable options I would not do an unaccredited MBA unless you were very convinced that it would never be necessary for you to have an accredited degree.

Perhaps he was referring to "Southern Pacific University" which has a non-impressive website at http://www.spuni.edu/index1.htm

It's out of date -- claiming that it is legally incorporated in the State of South Dakota AND that there are no licensing requirements in South Dakota for postsecondary institutions. However, its contact page lists mailing addresses in the British West Indies, New York, and Malaysia. It also claims membership in International Technology Education Association (ITEA), which is an organization of "education
professionals who are actively involved in
technology education" -- not of institutions.

    Dear all,

Thank you for all your valuable avdices. You know the word accreditation always get confused.

So I think I may take some time to take a look at those universities from UK or Australia. It seems easy to consider...

By the way, do you have any suggestion for me ?

    Thanks Kristin!

As soon as SPU webpage starts to load, I immediately realized that it's nothing but a scam.
