hello, this is my first post here. i have decided to go back to school at the age of 29. distance education is my only option due to work and other time constraints. i have an A.S. and A.A degree and 80 units from a RA jr. college i want to earn a B.A. or B.S. degree online but i am not good at math. i know everyone says that, but i seriously have issuse with it. my friends that have graduated from 4 year colleges tell me that unless i can pass statistcs, college-level algebra or higher, i shouldn't attempt a B.A. or B.S.. this is very frustrating because the highest level math i see myself passing is beginning algebra. (i needed business math to graduate from the jr. college.) as you could imagine, a diploma mill is very tempting to me. but i do want to earn a legit degree and would hate to be fired over a "diploma mill degree." on a side note i noticed mountain state university, a RA school only requires beginning algebra as a gen. education requirment. but they require statistics as part of the main course required for a criminal justice degree.....there only online degree program. looks like i'm back at square one. how can MSU say you only need beginning algebra to meet the general ed. requirment for B.A degrees, while all other schools required such hard math to pass before graduating MSU is a RA school. is there any math friendly respectible B.S. or B.A. programs avalible to people like me that seriously struggle with math? the only ones i can think of are theology degrees....but i don't think a religon degree would help my employment status much. if anyone could offer any help i would appreciate it. Bryan.
What do you want to major in? Bryan, the more info you can give about what you would like to do in and with your degree, the better we can help you find a program that will work for you. Welcome to the board, and good luck to you.
yup, tell us what you want to do and we could answer your question better. there are some good options for you out there. COSC has a pretty low requirements. Fort Hayes also has a degree that might be good for you. there are some open book math courses that just about anyone could squeek out a C and transfer into a program.
i'm interested in a sociology, liberal studies /arts, psychology, or a general studies degree. the major isn't as important to me as i'm just looking to put a B.A. or B.S. on my resume. my brother majored in history, yet works for a computer company. it seems that the degree itself is more important then the major.
well, if that is what you are looking for i wouldn't see a problem with it. try Fort Hayes, they have a good Gen. Studies program that require 0 math. i'm sure that others can give you more ideas. i'm taking some courses through MSU and it has been good so far.
