    a question

How do the Australian universities benefit by becoming members of DETC?

They presumably get the same benefit as University of South Africa which is...

    ...a very good question.

How do the Australian universities benefit by becoming members of DETC?

    Okay, here's my theory:

I am not sure about this, but aren't students eligible for federal student aid if they enroll (at least part-time) in a college or university that is accredited by the CHEA and DOE?? If so, then out of RA or NA which one would be easier to obtain and minimize the changes needed to the existing organizational culture at the university??

If the answers to those questions are YES and NA, then these schools may be looking to further establish themselves in the US DL market by making themselves more financially available to American students.

As far as the "NA" label that may be attached to them: I would think that these schools, above all else, would be thought of in this country as respectable foreign institutions that are equivalent to RA and not NA schools that can't get RA.

My thoughts were along the same lines (federal financial aid) but I know that these particular 3 schools are part of the 35-40 Australian universities that VA benefits can be used at. I put the two together and just assumed that American students would already be eligible for this.

Another Australian question - Since DETC doesn't accredit doctorates (yet), does this mean that theses schools would need to discontinue their doctorate programs?

No, but it could mean that only their MA and below programs would have DETC accreditation. It's a similar situation to the University of Leicester where only a couple of graduate programs are accredited:

University of Leicester's Centre for Labour Market Studies

Thanks Tom. I think I saw the answer to my second question at the UNISA entry (two below Leicester's).

Re: Re: Comments Invited on Applicants - New DETC Applicants

Good point. Another part of the DETC website refers to it as "Southern Queensland University".

    Re: a question

In addition to the above, many employer tuition reimbursement plans require CHEA recognized accreditation. This would open new markets for them.
