Dear friends, due to the previous board thread about 'multiple degrees', the question how many university degrees one could possibly (and legally) obtain... I now there are quite a few people in academia with more than one doctoral degree, and as the other board thread shows, we have quite a few people with more than one Master´s degree even here in our community, plus I know many people who are in the process of or have already acquired a second Bachelor´s degree (often via the 'big three'). Therefore my question to all the members of the board: how many university degress at least at Bachelor´s level do you have (Bachelor´s, Master´s, and Doctorates)? Are there people with more than - say five - university degrees here on board? And do you plan to continue your education? Up to what extent? I am really very interested. I am looking forward to receive many, many follow-up postings listing the total number + kind of your degree(s)! (next to the poll I´m also trying to start together with this thread - I hope it works -> ). Cheers, Trigger
Yes, it worked! Okay, I will start the enumeration then: I hold four degrees so far: Bachelor´s (Dutch University of Professional Education) Bachelor-equivalent 7-semester degree (German University) M.A. in Marketing (German University of Applied Sciences) MBA (German University) Up to come (hopefully): Master´s degree in Management (Australian University) PhD (undecided so far) That´d make 4 + 2 to come = 6 degrees altogether (quite a lot, now that I see it, hm...) What about you guys?
Hello, Another category is needed for Degrees in progress! ie. Bachelors, Masters + Doctorate in progress. Bah
And perhaps a category for those with a B, M, professional doctorate (DBA, etc) and academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, etc).
Well I am lost in education land as well. I have four degrees with one that I am working on. Why? At this time, I think it was economics, but who really knows. I will stop with the Phd at A&M. I am just wanting to finish and be done with it.
I answered "Other" because I don't have any degrees yet; however, I do plan on finish my BS in Computer Science, then an MS in Computer Science, a business oriented master's degree (I'm interested in the Florida Inst of Tech's MS in Systems Management) and then a PhD in Computer Science. Will I make it? The odds are probably against me, but on the other hand I dare anyone to bet against me
I'm new here but I guess I'll chime in. B.A. (Philosophy), Austin College M.T.S. (Church History), Harvard M.A. (Philosophy), Fordham M.Phil. (Medieval History), Columbia M.L.S. (Library Studies), Texas Woman's C.A.S. (Library Studies), North Texas C.A.S. (Archival Admin), Texas, Arlington I'm talking right now with UoL (UCL) about doing my Ph.D. studies. And I am so intrigued by the idea of having a degree from Zululand that I think I will go for a D.Th. with them. Then I may stop, although this education stuff is VERY addictive (at least to some of us). marilynd
Dennis's 8 non-religious degrees are listed in the Touro faculty list: http://www.tourou.edu/faq/faculty.htm (scroll down to Huber). He also has some religious degrees, which may well bring him to 13 total.
The Web page you linked to has a listing for Mary Evans, Associate Professor of Business Administration. Do you think this might be... Nah, never mind.
I would be interested in know if having more then one master degrees can work against you in the job search?
I know he has at least one other Bachelor's degree (Lee University?) and the M.A.R., M.Div., and Th.M. from Liberty University, so it's 12 at the very least.
I've been on many hiring committees in academia. I've seen multiple MA degrees help, but never hurt, a candidate. Tony Pina Northeastern Illinois University
I can see huge advantages to it in the academic world. What is the corporate take on it? Can one have too much education for the non-academic, big business world?
wow! 45 votes altogether up till now - you guys are great... I always thought I´d be the only person being so 'odd' to try to get multiple Master´s degrees, but some of you guys here truly outperform me... Regarding the questions if multiple degrees would hurt, I am also of the opinion that in academia, they can help - whereas in business, they could perhaps really lower your chances - your employer might think: this guy has not enough to do in his job, when he still has the time to gain further academic qualifications in his spare-time... - don´t you think so? That´s why I will 'leave out' all my degrees on my business card and formal letters when I once have my PhD, and ONLY list this one (as the highest qualification) with my name (exception of course: the enumeration in my CV).
