As of today I have sent off my last assingment for my last class (Capital Budgeting) in the IE PhD program at Colorado State (http://www.learn.colostate.edu/degrees/industrial.asp). It has been one heck of a two year period. Of the nine classes I have taken, five were almost pure statistics, one other was hevy statistics, one was light statistics (but heavy on business math (Capital Budgeting)). The other two were just heavy math oriented.

Now comes two light (sic) years of research and dissertation. My area will be verification and validation of discrete event simulation for bulk material handling (I hope).

I read the comments and look at the schools such as CCU, SCUPS, and KWU and wonder sometimes if this is all really worth it? Nah, I don't really as I have to look at myself every morning when I shave. If I did any one of those routes I probably couldn't (look at myself in the morning).

    Rough? YES!

    Worth it? YES!!! DEFINITELY!!

    Mike,

Welcome to the wonderful world of ABD (all but dissertation). I hope your research goes well and your defense goes smooth!

Relax, take some time off- an hour or two :D - you deserve it!!!!

Welcome to the valley of the shadow of diss.

Once I finish mine, I'll give you lots of pompous advice.

    For now, velcome comrade.

There is a little book called Writing Your Dissertation in 15 Minutes a Day by Bolker. I have found it wery helpful.

    Good luck to you.

    Yay!

Congratulations, Mike! As someone with only two years of college, walking down the long road and busting butt each and every day, what a nice thing it is to wake up and read (once again) that someone else is actually doing the work too. Good job!

Now, since you are just a regular statistics fancy-pants :D , what do you recommend as must have material for understanding statistics from the big picture perspective? I am getting the 'how', but I need to find a 'why' container to bring this all together. Insight from you would be most appreciated.

    Hat's off to you, sir!

    a propos

I just heard a wonderful line by a commentator for the women's marathon in Greece. Perhaps it is a well-known quote - though I've never heard it before - I certainly won't forget it.

"The road to success is always under construction."

Reading these posts with all of us in differing phases of education made me think of it and I thought you all would appreciate it.

  11. Congratulations Mike.

I assume you will create a software application to demo your work ??? If so, something of interest may be looking at some commercial work done in simulating bulk material movement via conveyors as fluid flow in tubes.

Next time someone refers to IE's as Imitation Engineers or Imaginary Engineers, I bet your statistics work will put a different spin on the conversation :)

I look forward to reading your work in some confrence proceedings publication.

Congrats! Mike, and thanks for that link to CSU's Industrial Engineering DL program.

May I ask what this means "ME 512 - Reliability Engineering (3 cr.) (3-day on-campus workshop and Internet)"? Should an online/DL student be required to attend on campus? or can be done completely online/DL? Thanks.

I viewed the program content, it's interesting and great for further education in engineering. Now, I couldn't wait for an admission to this program. Hoping to be admitted though.

BTW: I couldn't find your name at IIE's online directory.

    cheer,

All of the ME courses require attendance on campus for a 2 or 3 day session. This program can not be done entierly by DL.

Ohh God help me! I really thought the program is right for us living outside the US.

    But wait, the page says:
