    Hello,

I have been out of touch for a while. I did withdraw from Capella and now enrolled in a graduate certificate program in rehabilitation counseling.

After that, I will pursue my doctorates. I think I was too much intimidated by the dissertation. Given the extensive work required, I feel that I should at least opt for an APA program or at least a program that will allow me to take the licensure exam for psychology. I guess I will deal with that when the right moment comes. I decided to work on my short term career goals for now and obtain a relatively secure employment.

I was working on my resume today, and I am trying to figure out credits / GPA for the courses that was transferred to Regents (Excelsior) College for completing requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts. As most of you know, their requirements could easily be fulfilled by related military courses and some of which I notice, courses that was transferred and already accounted for from my Associate's Degree. I really don't want to double count my credits and make it seem like I cheated or something. I also can't figure out how to do the GPA as they did not award actual grades for military training.

I attempted to call Excelsior a few times but no one is returning my calls. Hmmm...now I am starting to think whether this is legit or not.

    Thanks.

    Estimate Number of Courses

Okey, I went back and counted each courses making sure that I did not double count courses.

    For Associate's Degree:

66 S.H. = actual courses taken at college
    13 S.H. = accepted military courses
*(However, on my transcript, it stated I have accumulated 66 S.H. but they did not figure in the 13 S.H.)

    For Bachelor's Degree:
15 S.H. = upper level courses taken at college
30 S.H. = credit given from passing the defense language proficiency tests
    45 S.H. = accepted military courses

    So, Could I put the ff: AA=79 S.H.; BS=90 S.H.

This just seems too much credits for an associates and a bachelor's degree. A whooping total of 169 hours. WOW! I am trying to make sure I am doing this right because I am applying for a federal government and don't want to be accused of misrepresenting myself.

    Thanks.

    JB,

PM me if you need specific help with your application (of 612, etc...), but as long as your transcripts show the hours, you are fine. Normally the hours are only needed if required by a specific career field. For example 24 semester hours in accounting for auditing.

Be sure that your transcripts specifically show the awarding of the degree. Diplomas are only good for hanging on the wall as the HR folks will need official transcripts to credit your academic work. If you are using academic credit to count in lieu of experience be accurate and keep in mind that if you have difficulty working up your hours the HR staff may be just as befuddled so help them out in understanding.

    Now, you can get double credit (sort of) for your seat time military classes. List them separately with all the pertinent information if they apply to the position. For example, and hypothetically, if you attending basic computer classess;

Computer basics, 40 hours, date xxxxx, Location xxxx.

The hours count towards experience, not academically in this instance.

In essence you get the academic value from Excelsior and the experience seat time hours from the military.

Another source of hours are all the correspondence or career related courses you may have taken. Each service lists the number of study hours these are valued at per course and many of these also carry ACE credit.

    Good luck....
