Good Afternoon. I currently have a M.S. in Counseling Psychology but would like to branch into Guidance Counseling. In addition, I am also considering other fields. I know in general, most colleges only allow you to transfer 6-9 credit hours. Is there any colleges out there that will allow me to transfer more than that? Thanks, Tess
Hi Tess - The only schools that I know of that offer that specific degree (Masters in Guidance Counseling) are: City U Argosy U UNISA U of Southern Queensland Most states have fairly specific requirements for people wishing to become employed in that field (School Guidance Counseling). Typically there is more than one specific degree that will qualify. My understanding is that states will sometimes allow an MEd with a specific concentration. Do you know what the requirements are in Georgia? If an MEd will work then you're going to have a substantially larger pool of schools from which you can choose. BTW, it's quite possible that the last two schools on my list will not work for you due to their being non-US schools. It's worth checking though. Good luck, Jack
Certification Hi Jack, At this time, I really don't know where I will be moving to since my husband is still in the military. Well, I know I won't be staying in GA. I pursued my current degree because I thought I would be able to practice counseling in a variety of areas and not limited to just counseling clients in a behavioral-clinic setting. One of my career goals, is to obtain a Federal Position. From my understanding, some federal employers, such as the Army, are not particular about what state I obtain the certification from. Thanks for your input. Tess
The University of West Alabama offers a Master of Education in School Counseling entirely online. It leads to licensure in a number of states. Tom Nixon
