Does anyone have ideas for DL Business Doctorates? After (if) I finish my MBA, I would like to look into PhD or DBA--or possibly DM, but not my preference--programs, but with 5 children and work (I teach college part time and work as attorney part time in private practice), the possibility of taking 3-5 years off to attend grad school for a doctorate is remote.

I know that Aston in England has a DL program that's accredited and high ranked, as does Grenoble in France. I also know about University of Maryland-University College, which is not accredited but for regionally, and I also believe that Manchester in England offers a DL DBA that's well-regarded.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm open to programs that offer Summer courses or that require residency, so long as it's not too much. I would prefer a program that's AACSB accredited and has some name recognition in the U.S., as I want to leave open the possibility of a tenure-track position at an American college or university.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So far, in the US you don't have AACSB accredited programs that are entirely offered by DL. North Central University is perhaps the only option available at the moment but they don't hold AACSB accreditation, the school is very new and we don't know how is going to perform in the future. I know few NCU graduates that work as adjunct but haven't met any tenure track faculty with NCU PhDs yet. The safest bet is to go to a school that have graduated quite few tenure track faculty members, NOVA has a lot of graduates working as full time tenure faculty and the same thing with Argosy. However, these are not AACSB and some residencies are required.

In the international arena, Henley College is AACSB accredited and very well respected. University of Manchester is also a top business school and holds AACSB accreditation.

I would say the the international schools as Grenoble, Henley, Manchester are in a different league as the american ones and would give you a much better name in your resume.

I am in my third and final year of the Grenoble DBA program. It is not 100% distance – you have to attend a yearly one-week seminar in France and in the U.S. (for the past two years the U.S. seminar has been held in New Orleans). You also need to defend your dissertation at the home campus. The entire program is in English and the school has a good reputation in the European Union. I looked at a lot of schools before I picked this one – and I have been very satisfied with the quality of the program.
