I put this here because in a sense it still applies to *accredited* distance learning. Apparently, if you are 3/4 through your degree program you are eligible for consideration under a *teach out* agreement. This as I understand it is mandated by TRACS and is being overseen by the State Board of Education and will allow those who complete it by May 05 to graduate with an accredited degree. It is a measure of consumer protection and requires the school to develop a solid plan.

There are some stipulations....there are no ifs buts or ands...you must be 3/4 through your program or you do not qualify. It must be done by May 05.

Some ray of hope for some folks.

Well, there's the rock on the gravestone. Thanks, North.

Forgive my denseness but what exactly do you mean. Is this like "nail in the coffin"? The rock is superfluous so....?

I enjoy your pithy sayings but occasionally need help interpreting.

It's an old custom to place a small stone or rock on top of a gravestone when visiting, as a sign of respect (tho the origin may have been making sure the dead stayed dead).

Thanks for the translation unk. It is a sad situation. Just received a solicitation for money from them. I wonder what is going to happen. They want to reapply for accreditation......but of course there is surviving financially until then. How do you go from a budget in the low millions to ???? Because of the teach out, they should be able to keep some money flowing in but that ends in May 05...then what? My understanding is that they must wait until one year is up to reapply to TRACS. They could always try DETC I suppose.

    Well...........

The "teach out" is a wonderful thing........if ACCS did not continue to have the un-wonderful administrative problems that caused them to spiral into disorder and loss of accreditation.

I am trying to use VA benfits and have had nothing but frustration in nailing that down (OK State VA says it is okay under the teach out). On top of that, other than the receptionist, it is extremely difficult to get a hold of Dr. Beville. Call 10 times maybe get a returned call. No response to e-mails from either him or Dr. Simmons. You have to get lucky and hit it just right to get Dr. Beville. I can't seem to get a hold of Hambrick by e-mail (it comes back returned as not accepting e-mails from sender...and I do not think I have ever contacted him before so he must have it shut off).

ACCS recently sent out a fund raising letter to help save the school. Frankly, when students have had so many problems it is hard to see them kicking in money.

In order to survive the school is going to have to have to quit over working the staff they have by bringing in volunteers. Surely, in a city the size of Oklahoma City they can find retired Christian educators to help with administrative stuff at the school and alleviate the burden on Beville, Simmons, and Walton. They are hoping to make it to reaccreditation and it will not happen if they continue to fumble along and do not get a grip on the administrative issues that caused problems in the first place and cause students to be extremely frustrated. I spoke to one doctoral grad who was just happy to be done with the place. That is not a supportive, money giving alumnus.

I had the opportunity to finish up there but am seriously reconsidering. There are deadlines under the teach out and I am not confident at this point that ACCS can do its part to help students meet those.

Trinity is going to be a lot more work but maybe the best course to take. Sighhhh..better get cracking. There are four major research papers in the first course, plus proctured exam.

North (frustrated......but will use Dr. Rich Douglas as my inspiration and just stick to it).

    North,

Bill Grover has been in hibernation of late while completing his thesis, however, your mention of Trinity should rouse him from his DegreeInfo slumber...............:D

I don't think anything will awaken our UNZiUL doctoral candidate, especially since not only is he working madly to finish his dissertation but he is (should be) back at school facing hordes of middle school students.

Yes, I received this fund raising letter too. I was quite offended by its tone. Considering that they never once in this entire process even mentioned the fact that they might lose accreditation, and then never announced it when they did lose accreditation, it seems to me quite brazen for them to write this kind of appeal at this stage of the game.
