Hi, all. I just took and passed my first DSST exam. I took the Criminal Justice exam, and was told I got "substantially" or "significantly" (or some other such word) higher than the average. I used a criminal justice text from a used bookstore ($10.00) to prepare for the exam ($60.00). Sweet. BYW, I have absolutely no criminal justice background, so this stuff really is doable. I remember reading something on bain4weeks that said that if you watch crime dramas on tv, you could pass this. I don't think I agree with that assessment (though I do agree with Lawrie Miller on most of the rest of what I've read there). I read the text book and really got into it for about a week, and a lot of the questions seemed to come right from the book (which was listed on the exam prospectus as a reference). Now if I can just bang out DSST statistics, I'll be a very happy camper. Sean
Five minutes. I took it at a military base, and she didn't give me a number score, just what she told me. It was a high pass.
man i wish they did that for me...i'm not sure if i passed criminal justice...i think i did marginal on law enforcement
Dunno. I have the book and study stuff from the stat course I washed out of before. I'll probably just use that.
First off CONGRAT's on taking and passing your first DANTES. The first one is the toughest! As for Statistics, don't take it lightly, but it is very passable. I procrastinated on this one for a long time. I found a great site with lot's of tips on this exact exam over at: www.degreeforum.com Exact thread: http://degreeforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88 Get a non programmable calculator, the Standard Deviant Statistics videos, 1-3 of the Statistics study guides, and you'll be fine with some study time. Good luck
Ultimale, thanks for the links. I'll go order those tapes. Maybe look on ebay too. I started a cram stat class 2 nights a week a while back, and dropped. It just wasn't happening for me. Since I'm a 3.88 student, I felt pretty devestated by the experience. So I challenged 2 more courses at my local CC and kicked butt on this DSST, and am feeling a bit more confident again. I will finish up Computer Science I online with my local CC in a few weeks and have my AA degree. Woohoo! Then I want to finish up my bachelors degree. I will probably need stat at some time if I want to get my masters in counseling psychology.

I would definitely check eBay for the Deviants videos, and most of my study materials. Don't worry about the one setback (dropping out of the stats class) the main thing is you got back up and got on the horse again. Here is another link I remembered: www.learner.org www.quickMBA.com Good luck, and keep rockin towards your BA!
