    Hi,

Prior jumping into a Psy PhD in either NCU or Capella , I would like to get some feedback from insiders regarding the workload as well as the way of working in each of these college

    1) How many hours a week per course (ballpark estimate..when a good routine is set) is to be envisaged to get into all the readings and writings required ?

    2) Way of working: I heard that Cappella is more around forum discussions between students and group work than working with a mentor, since NCU would be the opposite . Any truth behind that ? Can anybody elaborate .
Wonder if teachning methodology could be briefly described since I personnaly have no experience with DL.

thanks for sharing your experience with me

All Capella doctoral learners have a program mentor. This is in addition to the learner interaction that takes place in the online courseroom. I am familiar with the details of the Capella PsyD program.

Although not in the School of Psychology (I'm in the School of Business), I thought I'd share. I taking two classes this quarter, and for each one, I'm having to put in about 10-15 hours each week. This includes doing all of the weekly readings, writing two courseroom postings, and responding to four different learners' postings. Those are the minimum requirements, but you do tend to go beyond that in the classroom, when an interesting dialog springs up between two people -- you can easily end up writing and reading a lot more for support! Also, you have a course project for each class -- a scholarly paper usually 30-40 pages in length, min. 25 references, etc.

So, depending on the mix of materials and discussion questions for a particular week, you might get everything done in 10 hours, whereas some weeks (particularly when writing the course paper), you could put close to 30 hours. Remember, this is for each class.

    Hope this information is helpful.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne
