    Ahoj Y'all,

After a long time I finally finished! I defended my dissertation yesterday, and the decision of the committee was to accept it without changes.

For anyone thinking about whether they should go back to school, and may be concerned with their age, I say just jump in there and get started. I had no plans to go this far when I started back to school in my 40's. I used the 25 year plan to get my BS. My classmates convinced me to go on for an MBA. Finally, I decided to to try for a D.B.A. Well, after 4-1/2 years, I finally finished it.

Whether you are thinking of going back to get a GED, a bachelors, masters, or even a doctoral, just do it!

I would like to thank Dr. Bear for his guidance (back in the aed days) when I was thinking of going on for my doctorate. Also, I'd like to thank the GO6, Dennis Huber, and Dr. Jackson for their support.

I'll be updating my website over the next few weeks. In the meantime, now that I've had the celebratory pizza I think I'll go into a deep coma for the next couple days!

    Congratulations!

    Doc Russ,

Many congratulations on this wonderful achievement! That is so fantastic, and I'm sure you've earned about a week of sleep now! :D

How was your experience with the Argosy U. DBA program? Argosy gets mentioned so little on this forum.

    Cheers,

    Adrienne

    Hi Adrienne,

Well, its previous name (the one it had when I started) was University of Sarasota. They changed the name to Argosy before I went ABD. I am not enamored with the name, and the arguments for the change were not convincing, but it is what it is.

I was in Chicago last week (the HQ for Argosy U), and on my drive from Midway airport to the western burbs, I saw several signs for Argosy Casinos. Hmmmmm, I wonder if I'll get comped some chips...... Ooops- never mind.

i think it was a good program. I was one of the first students at the Orange County campus when it opened (not the first, but one of the first ones). The faculty are excellent for the most part, and the school weeds out the few that are less than what they should be. As with any academic institution (even ones that have biz schools) there does seem to be some administrative challenges, but usually they get sorted out. In all, even with a few hiccups and a less than wonderful name change, I'm happy with the experience.

Thanks, Rich. I hope to get caught back up in a few months. I have a couple things to handle, but should become a regular contributor at some point. Afterall, I have free evenings again

I remember them as U. of Sarasota -- I first looked at this school back in '97, when I was in Saudi Arabia, and thinking about doing an Ed.D.

When I started researching schools in 2002-3 looking for a PhD/DBA, I was surprised to see the change. I think it's a shame, as I'm not that thrilled with Argosy, either. But, I suppose with campuses all over the US (10 or 11, right?), it had to change to something.

Congrats, again, and enjoy the alumni casinos! :D

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Congratulations! I know the feeling. I was very happy to have had the opportunity to go through the experience and I was equally glad to have it all over with.

You deserve a well earned respite.

One of my friends finished her BS at UoPhx about 4 years ago at the age of 60 something. When I was teaching at UoPhx I had a couple students on the 40 year plan as well. :)

I think it's great to live in a country where I can go back- at pert near any age- and go back to school.

    Par-tay!
