A slowly-exploding time bomb at Albright College

There has been a series of stories in the Chronicle of Higher Education over the past two years, regarding the claimed credentials of the then-new president of the regionally-accredited Albright College, Colonel Henry Zimon. Faculty opposed to Zimon’s hiring suggested that his resume misstated both his academic and his publishing credentials, and “evidence obtained by The Chronicle supports the faculty members' suspicions.”

The claims included mention of several postdoctoral fellowships which seem not to have happened, and the claim of two books to be published by major published, both of whom said no, they are not publishing those books. Colonel Zimon then “waved a contract” at the reporter, saying it was a book contract, but would not let it be examined.

And this is news today because, the Chronicle reports in the current issue, that “Albright College has begun proceedings to fire a tenured professor (Achal Mera) who has been an outspoken critic of the college's president, who included what appear to be misleading statements about his academic and publishing credentials on his résumé before he was hired.”

Right. Fire the messenger who finds the time bombs. Chilling. Concomitantly, a prominent trustee of Albright resigned over this matter, supporting the faculty, stating “in an interview that he had been refused information on Colonel Zimon's academic and publishing credentials.”

In a not so subtle segue from another thread. . . no doubt the good Colonel sees this as a case of poetic turpitude.

Indeed. Although the WHOIS record for the littleindia.com domain explains the inclusion of this fascinating Zimon story and all of its juicy little details on that site. (Okay, Bruce, so sue me because I'm hooked on DegreeInfo.)
