Anyone on this board have any experience with the NCU Doctoral Programs?

I am looking at their PhD- in BA program.

Good? Bad? (I see they now have regular student loans.)

Also, anyone know how their comprehensive assesment works before you can enter the dissertation phase?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

NCU is not Harvard but it is the only 100% DL school with no residence requirement in the US. If you are unable to attend residencies it is pretty much the only option since Touro is not accepting more PhD students. I personally know a PhD from NCU that teaches as an adjunct for many Universities, I attended one of his seminars and he introduced his self as a graduate of a PhD in Business and that is all people needed to know (He did not mentioned the name of the university). In reality, few people would care if your PhD is from NCU, TUI, Walden, Argosy or University or Idaho if you are planning to make a life as an adjunct. If you are planning to land a job as a full time faculty in a top University then NCU degree would be an issue, but the same would be from a degree from TUI, Walden, Argosy, Nova, etc. In few words, if the degree matches your needs you should go for it, you will not find a Harvard type of school with the flexibility that DL schools offer.

    Tanker T,
I just started NCU's PhD/BA program and, although I haven't gone very far, I can already tell the education is excellent. I went to Columbia University (IvyLeague/NYC) for my master's work and I am already certain I will receive a "better" education at NCU. They are supportive and have developed a wonderful system to keep student (called Learner at NCU) in touch with professor (called Mentor). I really wanted to find solid support to move through the dissertation process and, although I looked at every B&M PhD program in NYC and checked out every program online I could find, I only found what I was looking for at NCU.
I am not familiar with the way they do evaluations with respect to unusual types of transfers or experience credits so you'll have to ask them. When it comes to solid curriculum they provide the maximum 30 credits toward the PhD leaving 51 credits to complete. That represents 27 in coursework and the rest in a beautifully designed step by step process to work you through the dissertation process.
It is geared toward students who are self-motivated when it comes to reading assignments, proofing ones own work, re-working, questioning and contacting the mentor when there are questions. There is a very supportive network of NCU students on the Boards so keep asking. I almost didn't notice your post. Good luck with your search and keep us advised how it's going. Are you looking for anything, in particular?
