TESC Questions? And Independent Learning Question

I am in the Military, registered and enrolled in TESC, will begin taking the American History 1 class on August 1. I have applied to take a TESC exam. Based on information on thier website, enrolled students pay 62.00 per credit hour. Now, math has not been my strong suite, I actually almost failed high school algebra. But that equates to 186.00 per test, they want 180.00 per hour for those things, 540.00 bucks for 1 test.

Anyone know why?

Also, does anyone know of a school that does true independent study, TESC Takes 16 weeks to complete the online courses and Adams State College wants 12. I would like to start knocking these independent study courses out. I have 8 more months in Iraq, I want to leave with a degree.
