The survey was paid for by Excelsior College. While I do agree with its results, especially considering my own experience (employer taking a solid interest in my pursuit of a degree by DL and offering to pay for graduate education), it is something akin to Kellogg's announcing they've funded a survey that says people love Corn Flakes.
Survey summary: "People ages 25 to 54 think distance learning programs will help them make more money, a recent survey shows." Yeah, but everyone starts out degree programs, diets, and dating expecting or hoping for wonderful results. Here's an idea: Excelsior has tens of thousands of graduates, going back 30+ years. How about surveying them 10, 20, and 30 years later to see how the degree has worked for them: earnings, career advancement, and satisfaction. Now those would be valuable data, especially when compared with comparable data from more traditional schools. Perhaps someone looking for a thesis or dissertation topic . . .
I'm not surprised by this survey, in today's very busy world of job, family, etc... commitments, for some people it may be the only way to obtain any kind of higher education!! And I will admit, I'm one of them!! Rich Hartel A.A. in Theological Studies, Trinity College of the Bible (present)
John, THAT would make an outstanding research project. I am very interested to see where Excelsior stands among their graduates. peACE, ACE
Now John, correct me if I'm wrong, but I've gotten the idea that you may have taken one or two courses in research, no? Jack
