Fascinating information, BarbaraL, and so specific. Thank you.

One wonders, needless to say, where the information comes from, especially regarding the finances of the five other degree mills you mention, all of them closed by authorities, and four of the five proprietors imprisoned, the fifth just heavily fined.

    Interesting indeed, Barbara! Thank you.

Was it Sonny & Cher who sang "And the beat goes on?" These operations are some of the slickest money making efforts I've seen. Of course, if the product wasn't in demand there would be no market for worthless credentials.

Its kind of like the diet pill advertised on TV, where one merely needs to take the pill (nothing else) and the weight comes off as one sleeps. Who would be so gullible as to believe such nonsense. [IMG]

A fat-free degree sweetened with Asmartame that is class-free, exam-free, and contains 0% of the USDOE-recommended daily requirement for educational units.

The above statement has not been evaluated by the U.S. D.O.E. for accuracy. Some side-effects may occur, such as loss-of-sleep and loss-of-job. If you suffer continued loss-of-job, see a doctor (of education). If you are pregnant or are thinking of becoming pregnant, the above side effects may counter-indicate use of this degree: see a doctor (of medicine, not education).

Another side effect of long term use is chronic schizophrenic paranoia, which is characterized by a continual looking over one's shoulder for fear of being exposed. [IMG]

Are you sure about this address (possibly the street name)? I intended to cruise by this address on the way home from work this afternoon but Crestmont Way is not on my city maps. There are several streets here that begin Crest, but no Crestmont.

MapBlast.com suggests it is a small street off Oak Ridge Place near Boiling Springs Road.

The reverse yellow pages lookup (one of the most wonderful tools for us wannabe detectives) has nothing commercial at that address, so it will be very interesting to have your report, Doug.

    What goes around . . .

Greenville provided the impetus for the FBI's DipScam program. After they raided and closed Southeastern University in Greenville, other agents started asking for help with the phonies in their cities, and DipScam was born (about 1979). While it did fine work (more than 50 phonies closed), sadly it closed down in the early 90s, just as the Internet was coming along and the field was exploding.

I called the 29615 post office for this info. They do not list a Crestmont Way in 29615 zip. If anyone would like to follow-up, we are in 864 area code and 29615 is the Orchard Park post office.

    John:

Perhaps you could call your FBI contacts and encourage them to renew DipScam--Internet Style. They would certainly have a full-time job on their hands.

On a lighter side, Imagine FBI agents forcing their way in to a "University," only to find:

    1) An Answering Machine
    2) A Ream of freshly printed diplomas
    3) An accreditation certificate from WAUC [IMG]

Absolutely extraordinary! The web site is a disgrace, full of misleading information and spelling mistakes. The web site is in Germany where the world wide 'study centers' are coordinated.
The claim is made that the University is "fully state recognised " in Suriname. I would be very surprised if it has any sort of official recognition.

From what you are saying they are making a fortune!.

    The web site is http://www.mba-study.de/

    Re American University in Suriname.

This could be potentially dangerous as they are offering degrees in both medicine and pharmacy. Imagine someone practicing with such a degree.

It must have surprised motivational speaker and "Fellow and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychotherapists and Psychodiagnosticians" Dov Baron www.dovbaron.com/bio.html
because he has removed the reference to Suriname in his CV showing his master's degree. Doing a search a few nights ago, his master's was from his alma mater's former name, American University of Suriname. Now it is only American International University. Did he de-fuse a time-bomb?
