I have been approved for graduation from Excelsior College for a Bachelor Of Science in Liberal Studies (concentration in Geography/Geology).

I was sent an email of conformation that all degree requirements have been met and have been approved for a mid-august 2004 graduation!!!!!

I originally enrolled back in March 2003 to Excelsior College with the guidance and help from those wonderful individuals on these boards.
After a few months of deciding which courses to take (9 total) to complete my degree program, I opted to actually take courses via online and correspondance to finish.

I had to sell my mint-condition 1993 Ford Mustang GT, in order to help pay for my remaining education. It was a sad day then...but a happy day now!

I took the following nine (9 ) courses from the following colleges within a (9) month period......it has been a long 9 months, well worth it!

    - Athabasca University......GEOL 415 "Earth's Origin & Evolution"-

    - Ball State University ......GEOG 331 "Global Climatology"

    - Southern Illinois University Carbondale....GEOG 330 "Weather"

    - Brinham Young University....SCED 515R 029 "Education Measurement and Assessment"
    .... SCED 515R 030 Teaching Mathematics 9-12"

    - University Of Northern Iowa.... ES870:186 "Studies/Solar System"

    - Universtiy Of Oregon.... GEOL 310 "Earth Resources"
    .... GEOL 304 "Fossil Record"
    .... GEOL 306 "Volcanoes/Earthquakes"

I am all done, worn out, happy, and getting ready for gradute school this coming Jan 2005!!!!!!
Thank you to all for all the help, assistance, and guidance over the past year......and everyones continued support and advise in assisting me in selecting the perfect DL graduate school(s).

    :D

    graduation from EC

    Nobycane,

Congratulations on earning your BS degree. Nine courses in nine months is amazing. No wonder you are exhausted.

I am a kindred spirit having earned a BS in Earth Science from a B&M University.

I see that you plan on attending grad school. Will this be in Geog/Geol ?

Best of luck with your future plans.
    Bummer about the mustang.

Yes, it will be a combination of Geographical and Geological sciences.
For Geography, it will be in Atmospheric Sciences.
For Geology, it will be in Paleoclimatological/PaleoMeterological Sciences.

Thanks for asking.....and yes I am still bummed about the Mustang, but one day I will get another one.

    Nobycane,

Congratulations! If it makes you feel any better I sold my '66 Shelby many years ago for a song. If I had only known...

The guy who bought my last house sold his '69 pro street fastback for a down payment.

    Congrats again :D

  6. Congrats

    and best wishes.

Ooh, ooh, ooh....Somebody who has already done what I'm trying to figure out how to do! :)

I am *heavily* looking at Excelsior's Geology program for a second B.S., since I would really like to start moving my career towards the environmental sector (where I already work as a technician). However, cost is a major concern for me right now.

I took note of the 9 classes that you listed. If you don't mind me asking, what was the ballpark figure for what those 9 classes ran you?

Also, is your graduate program a DL program? If so, I would love to inquire as to where, since for management positions in environmental science an M.S. is often required.

Thank you for posting, as you are already on the track I would like to move towards.

    Thanks!

Re: Re: Re: graduation from EC

Let me see, for all 9 classes that I listed above...
just the tuition itself was just about $3500.00
All the books for all 9 classes totaled about $2000.00 +/-
I cannot remember the other miscellaneous costs, but they included enrollment fees, transcript fees, application fees, etc...

All 9 classes were about the same cost, except Brigham Young University's, they were the cheapest (like ~ $200 a course).
But the other 7 were between $400 - $600 per course.

So it was basically cheaper than anticipated
The only other fee was Excelsiors graduation program fee, which was like $300.

    Re: Congrats

Yes, after many hours of research of different DL schools, and various programs I have made a decision to stay at Excelsior College for the Master in Liberal Studies program.

I will be pursuing a concentration in Atmospheric Sciences and Paleoclimatological/PaleoMeterological Sciences.

It just seems like the perfect road for me right now, plus I will be the first student to pursue a Masters in a science related field of this sort.

So I am quite excited as well as their graduate dept. advisors.

    Your programs

Thank you so much for the very helpful information. This is exactly what I was looking towards doing. I appreciate the cost data, as well.

I hadn't thought of doing their MA/LS program. Were they pretty flexible when you proposed your degree completion plan? And are there graduate level independent study courses in that field, or are you going to be doing everything via portfolio assessment?

My apologies for all the questions, but it just so happens that you are the first person I've found on the Internet that is pursuing a track similar to what I would like to do.

Again, thanks for all the information!

    Re: Your programs

I have about 18-22 different courses that I have "personally" selected within my selected concentration areas in Atmospheric Sciences/Geological Sciences, that are "all" distance learning and/or correspondance learning at the graduate level from various universities/colleges across the US.

There were many more courses, however, I needed to narrow it down to a point where it was going to suit my academic interests.:D

If you are interested in which colleges and universites have these courses, PM me with an email, and we can discuss this on a more private manner.

And that way I can forward you links and such.
