hi all, I would like to know if this university is an accredited one. Webpage at www.newport.edu. and also http://www.aakm.org.hk/eng/index.htm (hong kong) I am currently in singapore and I have seen this ads on the STAR paper. The address is in malaysia and its a part of the LION group. thanks your kind help. regards, lavanya
No, it is not accredited. Your first link does not go to Newport. At your second link, Newport says it is not accredited. It says it is licensed by the state of Wyoming, but that isn't the same thing. It is more like a business license, a permission to operate. Not only is that not accreditation, the state makes it clear that such authorization does not constitute approval by Wyoming. Taking a degree from this school means taking a degree from an unrecognized school. Please search this board to learn about the ramifications of such a decision.
http://www.aakm.org.hk/eng/f_contact.htm MBA is fully accredited by the Canadian Chartered Institute of Business Administrators (CCIBA). Maybe thats how their Malaysian counterpart came to NIU accreditation:: Peter Chin
I am sorry about the first link. http://www.k12.wy.us/ao/f/programs/psl/degree.html follow the link above. it shows newport international university is accredited by the state of Wyoming US. http://niu.org.uk/ regards, naren
No you follow the link above and it says this NEWPORT INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY Licensed/not accredited by the state License valid until June 30, 2008 See, its not accredited. They even say so on their webpage just like Rich pointed out.
Please read: http://www.k12.wy.us/ao/f/programs/psl/faq.asp#accreditation Per the State of Wyoming: Claiming accreditation from the State of Wyoming is a LIE!
States, except for New York, do not "accredit" schools. Some states approve schools. Wyoming does not. It licenses them, and makes it clear that this licensure does not constitute approval from the state.
Newport International (formerly Newport University) operated in Newport Beach California (hence the name) years ago. When California finally abolished the "authorized" category of schools (requiring not much more than a declaration of $50,000 in assets), many institutions that were not able to meet the more stringent state approval process, relocated to other states. Newport was one of these. As Rich says, Wyoming does not accredit colleges and universities. The accrediting body for Wyoming is the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. The only accredited 4-year university in Wyoming is the University of Wyoming (at Laramie). There are also 11 Wyoming Community Colleges accredited by North Central. Newport International is not on the list of accredited institutions. Tony Pina Faculty, Cal State U. San Bernardino
