I only need this to finish my degree. What are some colleges that offer this for a resonable fee. I have taken some courses at the local community college and the cost is $135 for 3 credits. They don't offer this class.

    Hey BB!

I was sort of in a similar situation with Regents (Excelsior), for the B.S. in CIS.

What I was able to do was go to a local state univ that offered upper level Computer Science courses, and find a professor who was willing to work with me on an Independent Study basis, using the textbook that a nearby private ($$$) school was using for the course.

Regents (Excelsior) gave me no problem. Accepted the upper level undergraduate credits, and I only had to show them the Independent Study "contract" that the local state univ required to enroll for independent study.

    Hope this is somwehat helpful.

interesting. I think I might have found a North Carolina CC that might have the class. If they do, then they only charge $135 for 3 credit hours.

I submitted the courses to Excelsior for review, hopefully they will accept them.

    Greetings.

    a) It would have been nice if you had given some details about the course you have found. Mention of whether or not it is available by distance, a link to the institution, the name of the course: these all might have been of help to someone!

    b) Ohio University (http://www.ohiou.edu/independent/) offers a CCE (College Credit by Examination) test that yields 2.67 S/H (4 Q/H) credits in the subject of "Microprocessor and Computer Basics" (ETCH 236A, http://www.ohiou.edu/independent/desc_sht/etch236acce.htm). OU doesn't distinguish between freshman and sophomore level classes, nor do they distinguish between junior and senior level classes; i.e., there are only freshman/sophmore level classes and junior/senior level classes. Still, if it helps, the "2" in "ETCH 236A" does imply sophomore level. Also, if you find yourself liking the course or needing more credits, there is an additional course in the series (ETCH 236B).

    Cordially,

    Greetings.

The cost for the EXAM -- not course! -- I directed you to can be found at http://www.ohiou.edu/independent/spec_cce.htm . To save you a trip, at this time the cost is $65 per Quarter Hour Credit with a $15 surcharge if they mail the material outside the US. The exams I previously wrote about were worth 4 Q/H (2.67 S/H) credits each, which means that they each cost $260 if taken in CONUS (CONtiguous United States).

    Cordially,
    Richard Kanarek

I don't think I could test out of it. I don't know any assembly language, and I can't remember as far back as the 8088 and 8086.

To be honest this is one of the things that pisses me off about colleges. Who really cares about the 8088 and 8086. I don't think they have been around for what 18 years, and in computers that is a long time.

Well, i am not sure about that specific architecture but these type of classes (comp architecture and assembly) tend to be prequisite classes for more advanced classes (like control programs or OS fundamentals).

    Best Regards,
