This is a big mystery to me. Why is it that TESC claims that the typical PLA narrative (portfolio) document is 9-15 pages in length, double spaced (lol). Here are mine:

Introduction to UNIX - 75 pages
Advanced UNIX / UNIX Shell Programming (combined PLA) - 66 pages
    C Programming / Advanced C Programming - 54 pages
Systems Analysis and Design - 69 pages
    Painting I - 90 pages
Web Page Development - 53 pages
    Managerial Communications - 60 pages

Although some evidentiary material is included in the PLAs (scanned in) as part of the narrative, these page counts do not reflect doesn't count many supporting documents which are kept separately because of their length.

Has anyone else run into this scenario, or am I just really long winded? :)

    Cheers.

Sounds like someone needs to take a chill pill.

    No, I'm just kidding.

Really though, do you think whoever is reading these might get a bit frustrated that they have to do so much work? I would be interested to know the thoughts of the evaluaters themselves.

I'm sure it will do more than prove that you are knowledgable in these areas though. I bet your results will be favorable.

By the way, are these PLA s pass/fail or graded?

Thanks for all of your thorough posting, it has been very helpful.

Yes - on the transcript, the course will be listed as just "CR" for CREDIT received ...

Whether it is accepted or not would depend on the reader(s). If they state 'typical' lengths, that leaves the door open for more...... or less work.

When I did my doctoral comps, the requirements were at least 5 references per question. No minimum or maximum number of pages were given as a guideline. We had 2 weeks for the 3 questions.

My first question had 57 references and was 30 pages long. The other two were comparable. When several of us compared notes, the number of pages were about the same, there did seem to be a variation in the number of references used. One cohort that wrote about 30% more pages had to repeat the comps. He was told to focus more.

So, if you passed, great! However, focus you may want to consider looking at how to tighten your writing. It could help you in grad school if you decide to continue, and it will definitely help you in business.

Oh, passing isn't a problem ... lol ... I'm just wondering if I'm in overkill mode, or if this is normal.
