I know of only two ABA schools that even OFFER the PhD in law, these being University of Washington (fluency in an Asian language required) and Tulane, who recently changed the name of their JSD to PhD. Neither program is D/L. I know of NO ABA school offering a JSD by D/L.
Oh, two more points: The University of Leicester has a D/L PhD in law, totally GAAP. My personal favorite CalBar D/L law school, Northwestern California University , offers an unaccredited D/L JSD. Both programs require a first degree in law or a degree with a substantial law content. www.nwculaw.edu
St. Thomas University I've read that St. Thomas University is developing a d/l JSD in International Taxation, in addition to their current d/l LLM program.
I couldn't find it on their web site. Doesn't mean it isn't true, though. UNISA offers the LLD under flexible circumstances that might amount to D/L.
At one point I did the research and determined that even if I had to make the trip to South Africa once per year throughout a PhD program, the cost would still be lower than every viable alternative. Don't ignore the ZA option. Jack
