I just received an email from a foreign school that I'm interested in, saying that Excelsior College is not listed in the International Handbook of Universities. Is this true? If so, how can I convince them that Excelsior is legitimate?

You should refer them to here:

    http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/accreditation_pg2.html#U.S.

Whcih explains US Accreditation and CHEA:

    and then here:

    http://www.chea.org/institutions/action.cfm?CheaID=152.0

Which shows Excelsior is accredited by a CHEA approved organization Accrediting Agency, Middle States.

Tell them that Excelsior changed its name from Regents College a few years ago and ask them to look for it under the old name.

Assuming that's the problem, you might suggest that they equip themselves with a more recent edition of the Handbook.

Click on this link and go to the listing under New York. You should see Excelsior is listed. Someone told me that this is an updated list.

I see Berne University listed under St Kitts. However, I don't see Columbia Commonwealth's 'accredited' university listed under Malawi! Does anyone know what has happened to that entity?

    St Regis under Liberia....only joking!
