    Hi!

I just completed my PhD in IT Management at Capella.

I have been thinking about the term Brick and Mortar (B & M). Maybe we should use a different metaphor which is more suggestive of the potentially backward nature of these schools. The term Desks and Dust (D & D) appears to be an effective replacement to describe these older-fashioned educational delivery methods, which are based on students sitting at their desks and the professor creating chalk dust. Does anyone else have an idea for an expression to replace the B & M designation?

Unfortunately, "desks and dust" is also an apt description of the place where I have my computer -- where distance learning happens for me.

Besides, just as on campus delivery isn't right for everyone, neither is online. Can't we all just get along? ;)

That you've completed your PhD blows me away! Here I am, struggling with a crummy master's degree!

    I like D&D, though.

I'm jealous too. I have been in my phd Capella program since Jan. 2002 and I still have over two more years to go. Oh, well. It will come someday!

    time

I started the program in April 2002 and finished in June 2004. I could have been more efficient but I had to change mentors and it took almost two months to find a visiting scholar for the dissertation committee.

Just about all the schools I have attended in the US (Approx 12) were C&G (Concrete and Glass).
