i am very much wanting to start college next month during summer school at Chemeketa (unless someone can give me reasons why i shouldn't). i've been out of school for over 10 years on on disability.. the only way i could afford it is if i am eligible for financial aid.. my question is if i were to fill out the fafsa now would i be approved in time for summer school of 2001.. registration deadline is about a month from now.

    thanks

The priority/regular deadline for the FAFSA was March 2nd. I think you would still be able to receive financial aid, depending on the funds that the school still has available....

Our program requires 12 weeks lead time in order to process financial aid paperwork. That's from the time they first receive your application, until the funds are actually available in your account to draw from. I would suspect it would be more likely your aid would not be in place until Fall semester.

I'm not familiar with the school you mention, but see if they have a Disabled Student Services Office. They might be able to assist you in expediting your funding. You might also look into the possibility of securing a short term loan (from the college or perhaps a local lending institution) to cover your fees for summer, with the expectation of paying it back if/when your aid is approved.

    Good luck.
